The main responsibility of the Fire Department is to suppress and prevent fires in the City of Stoughton and the townships under contract for protection with the city. The townships are Dunn, Dunkirk, Pleasant Springs, Rutland, Porter, and Albion. The department is also trained to be prepared to handle other emergencies such as wind storms or tornadoes, gas explosions, industrial accidents, and farm and auto accidents.
