Hamline SSDP is a non-partisan student activist organization that calls for a transition towards drug policies that prioritize human rights & public health
Hamline University Students for Sensible Drug Policy is a non-partisan student activist organization that calls for a transition, global and local, towards drug policies that prioritise human rights, public health and compassion over punishment and incarceration.
We organize to fight back against the counterproductive policies that make up the War on Drugs, particularly those policies that directly impact students and young people. We seek to educate our communities about the realities of prohibition, and to dispel the lies spread through prohibitionist propaganda (see 'Reefer Madness', news stories about drug trends, etc.).
We neither condones nor condemns drug use, rather encourage reasoned and informed descison making through choice. We work to inform our peers about harm reduction and drug safety by making knowledge and resources accessible at on campus events, group meetings, and via our social networks, and are working to bring confidential purity testing resources to our campus in the near future.
We seek to create a safe space for victims of drug-war related violence. We encourage sharing experiences, storytelling, and discussion as a way to heal, educate, and help evolve society. Hamline SSDP officers serve as non-judgemental and confidental resources for harm-reduction information and resources, addiction resources, and resources to help in the event of campus drug and alcohol policy violations and other legal issues.
Our belongs to our parent organization, Students for Sensible Drug Policy, a grassroots collective of students working to end the Drug War. You can learn more about SSDP by visiting a chapter meeting, or by visiting http://ssdp.org/about/
