Description

The Suffolk County Courthouse, also known as the "John Adams Courthouse", is a historic courthouse building on Pemberton Square in Boston, Massachusetts. It is home to the Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court (the state's highest court) and the Massachusetts Appeals Court.The six-story granite courthouse was built in 1893 to a design by Boston city architect George Clough. Stylistically the building was described at the time as "German Renaissance"; it is now viewed as transitional between the monumental Second Empire style of Boston's Old City Hall and the Classical Revival.From 1893 to 1938, the Supreme Judicial Court and the Social Law Library occupied the building, known then as the Suffolk County Courthouse. In 2002, the Supreme Judicial Court, the Massachusetts Appeals Court, and the Social Law Library returned to the restored building, which was renamed the John Adams Courthouse. The building was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1974.

As an attorney I thought everyone was helpful. There security guard directed me to where I should go to research an old case, the clerk's office was helpful, even though the files I wanted to looked took up multiple boxes. But, it's a court you go here because you have to, not for recreation.
Everyone very pleasant. The clerks office is quick, efficient and knowledgeable. The magistrates know their stuff and are quick and agile at making things happen what need to make happen. The parking is close and local and also expensive. But expensive parking is what we all expect in Boston and has no relationship to the good work of the good people at the courthouse.
This review is from the perspective of being a juror. I just wanted to answer some questions I had that were not 100% clear on the Court Website. The entrance to the court for jury duty is not visible from Somerset St, you have to walk into Pemberton Square with almost no signs telling you where to go. The door with Suffolk County Superior Court carved above it is the one you want. You CAN bring your phone/laptop/tablet. There is no wifi that was accessible in the jury room. I did not see any available power plugs in the main waiting room but there were plenty in the smaller "Break Room". All calls must be made in the hallway outside of the main room where the elevators are located. You can bring snacks and drinks but you must consume them in the break room not the main waiting area. There is a small coffee and snack shop right outside the main room. The whole operation was well organized. Staff kept us as informed as they could. Its a long day but it was worth it.
THE FOOD/SNACK BAR BY THE JURY ROOM NOW TAKES CREDIT CARDS. Finally. Since I run a network of jenkem distilleries just google it. Actually, don't. Stay off my turf, I end having to appear in court quite often. I would say this courthouse is probably middle of the road. The best part actually is the food/snack bar. The snacks and food are actually made there I believe, I got a peek into the room behind the counter. They have full sandwiches, breakfast combos, bacon, eggs, etc. The quality is actually really surprising, I enjoyed what I got, and it was cheap too. I think I had a Gavel Burger and a Justice Shake, but I can't recall now. The jury waiting room has an interesting timeline regarding Mass. legal history. Apparently, we were the first to tell anti-Vaxers to piss off, that was in the early 1900s. Which amazes me because I thought anti-Vaxers were some kind of next-level stupid that the early 2000s invented. The rest of the building is pretty spotty; floors are old & lighting is poor. The elevators are slow and take forever to arrive. The bathrooms aren't going to leave you scarred, but they're not exactly up to date either. The nicest thing I can say is that the jury box itself has a foot-rest for each seat that makes sitting much more comfortable. Lastly, I found all the staff, clerks, trial court police, etc. to be perfectly nice as well. Just be nice and they'll be nice back; believe me, you're not important enough for anyone to care enough to be rude to you.
The court staff are always pleasant, patient and helpful. Big thank you to Brenda Shisslak for helping me in a pinch and sending an extra summons in a rush. One of many examples where the staff goes above and beyond to help.

Seems alright but a heads up to others, there's no outlets in the waiting room for jury duty, at least as far as I can tell. Definitely plan ahead.
Staff was rude, 10/10 would not recommend. Go to a different courthouse if you can. Will promise you will walk out this one frustrated and left feeling belittle.
Extremely rude and unprofessional. Phone rang and rang and rang. I had to call back several times before I got someone to finally answer. The woman who answered did not identify herself. Talked over me when I attempted to ask my questions. Failed to provide correct information, and then hung up one me without addressing my question. Very bad, poor service.
The security folks were pleasant and the clerk's office staff was efficient and kind and had a sense of humor. An all around good visit. Thanks everyone!
