Pretty expensive for non-members but the course is in great shape. The ranger basically followed our group the entire front 9, mostly from afar. Felt a bit like big brother watching over us considering we weren't members. He was friendly but made the experience much less enjoyable.
Very rude staff - we got yelled at for a very simple mix up/mistake with the cart path on the last hole very in-depth cart instructions per hole due to rain. Simply telling us, respectfully, that we made a mistake could have done. The starter decided to yell at our group and the group behind us mid-hole and shot
Very recently golfed there and it was fabulous. You're on and around a mountain. They do an excellent job prepping this course for play. A quick bite and beer at Hogan's Pub is a must.
This is a fun and challenging course for all ability levels. The greens are well maintained and the views of the valley are exceptional.
Beautiful location and the course is in great shape. Tough to get a flat lie.
Leaving my first ever google review because I left this course a little frustrated. Place is beautiful and layout is fun and unique. Only issue is $125 per person is pretty steep for a course with a few beat up fairways and a beverage cart guy that doesn't drive around the course he just sat in his cart for the entire round in the same spot on the back 9. Had a great time but for $125 you have to expect a well-manicured course and great service.
First time at Sugarbush Golf Club and it was a good experience. You won't find friendlier or more helpful staff anywhere. And the scenery is gorgeous. The golf was fun and challenging in just the right ratio. Grounds were in excellent shape and the greens were immaculate. Recent downpours had made some areas a bit soggy. We had a great time and will go again.
In defense of Sugarbush, today was their closing day. That being said - I was really disappointed to see how hard they mailed it in on their closing weekend. Greens were punched 3 days prior. I get you gotta punch the greens, but why do it 3 days before closing? Why not just wait? Fairways were the length of rough. But the worst, & really the laziest thing I've ever seen a course do - THEY DIDN'T PUT TEES OUT. That's right - there were no tees in the tee boxes. Had to use the yardage book $5 to guestimate where the tees should be. For a $120 round, this is really inexcusable. Additionally, I really hated the layout of the course. Some may disagree, so to each their own. Tons of blind tee shots. Tons of super slopey greens & hard kicks. It was really tough given that this was our first time playing the course. Just a really gimmicky layout in my opinion. Do yourself a favor & play Sugarloaf or Sunday River instead. Much better Robert Trent designs & the staff there would never present the course in the condition that Sugarbush was in today.
Sugarbush is a golfers delight. The vista's, the designs of the holes, their length and the serenity that comes from being in the mountains and in the green of Vermont. Flat lies do not exist and blind shots are part of the test. After surviving the fairways, welcome to slick greens that make a normal put an easy 3 put. A jewel in the mountains even if the course rating is an unheard of 150.
I am really torn in writing this review. I have many fond memories of sugarbush and it’s golf course. Our family has played countless rounds and even a pre-wedding scramble there. But like those memories, this course has seemed to fade. This course used to be a really nice mountain resort course. It was challenging, long, and had many elevation changes. The blind dog legs made it nearly impossible to score low on many holes. However; the thing I remember most about it was it extremely well maintained grounds. When I played there last summer, and again this year, I found that this is not the case any more. The fairways are nearly unplayable, with lumps, and constant bare spots. The drainage has made it so that the grounds crew cannot mow the dandelion covered rough, as there is standing water. The greens were also near bare. It is clear that while the rest of the resort is seeing upgrades, the golf course has been left without a budget. I do not know how this course can justify its $120+ price tag with the product they are rolling out there. I really hope they can restore this course to what it used to be.
