My daughter and I camped here for 2 nights. We only had a tent. The first night, we were woken up at 3am to raccoons lifting our heavy cooler lid and helping themselves to food. They got very close to our tent and didn’t seem too scared. I understand animals are a thing and we definitely put the cooler in my car the 2nd night. But, the next day, there was litter everywhere from the packaging the raccoons ripped open and I threw it in the fire pit to burn later that day. I got a note from the park telling us not to litter….which I explained to them it was the raccoons and there was no way for me to pick up every piece they took off with. Needless to say, they were aware of the raccoon issues so therefore I feel like there should be a little warning to campers like, hey just make sure you take even your heavy coolers inside we had no camper to put it in because the raccoons are very brave lol. The park was beautiful and very very quiet. We got the site right next to the playground so my daughter could play. The beach was nice but the lake also has water snakes that they don’t tell you about and kids scream there’s snakes in the lake. The road back there is the worst road I’ve ever driven on. Seriously like 10 minutes of gravel, dirt and severely potholed roads. Overall it’s nice but could use some heads up from the staff.
Couldn't get back to campsites yet but road to it is not wide enough for 2 cars to pass & a lot of potholes. I wouldn't take a camper through that road & would worry about damages. I would not camp there unless road was paved and widened.
1st the road to get there is full of pot holes and very narrow. So take your time. Now with that being said, this is a great little campground, they have a small beach and play area close to each other. A boat launch and small dock for the fishermen. And the sites are very spacious and level. I will for warn, you cannot leave your car and trailer at the boat launch all night, even though there are no postings what so ever. I did get a stern talking to about that from a ranger. Even though last year it was allowed. If you like this one, try some of the other waterloo campgrounds.
Great campground! The sites are grassy and relatively level. The playground, gaga ball pit, and beach are nice and well maintained. The bathrooms and showers were clean. It's a part of a much larger recreational area with lots of trails places to enjoy nature and the night sky.
Sugarloaf Campgrounds was a very nice and, very well kept. The sites were large enough and it was fairly level. The bathhouse was really nice for a state park. There was plenty of room to ride bikes and the swimming area was just right for families. We regretted only getting to stay for one night. It's on my list of campgrounds to return to someday.
Super clean location and nice sites everywhere. Easy kayak access too. Close to downtown Chelsea for some great food and drinks when you need a break from your break.
Great place for a family weekend camping... More than a weekend if I could. Place has ice and water from 1 pm onwards at the camp office. All cleaning amenities for campers and RV. A small lake next to a play ground for little kids and GaGa ball, etc. Toilets and showers are reasonably clean and not crowded even though the camp was almost at capacity this weekend. Site has access to a mile long trekking loop and another much longer one. The view of the stars at night are breathtaking.
Very nice clean campground. Larger campsites that are cared for well. Large playground next to the lake. There is a 1 mile hike starting behind the dump stations which was nice for a quick stroll withthedogs.
Large sites, clean space, clear water, and good fishing! Only downfall is the beach needs to be bigger. Not a lot of social distancing because there wasn't enough room. Barely any phone signal, just a heads up. Bathrooms were nice enough. We enjoyed the 1 mile trail attached. Will return.
We were just looking for a place to stay the night while making our way from Detroit to Chicago. We found this hidden gem campground and loved it so much that we decided to stay for more! The beach on the lake is nice and the water were so clear! The kids loved the playground. We arrived after the office was already closed but was directed by the nice camp hosts to park anywhere and just go to the office in the morning. Pull thru sites with electricity. At the entrance to the park there is a dump station and you can also fill out fresh drinking water. We had a great stay.
