The Sulphur Springs Museum and Heritage Center was created to celebrate and preserve the social and natural history of Sulphur Springs, a community that helped Tampa grow. Once known as the Coney Island of Tampa, Sulphur Springs has many historic sites and buildings, and a rich history.
The Museum has existed since 2006, offering educational programs, but in February 2017 it opened in a new space at Mann-Wagnon Park, on the scenic Hillsborough River, and since then we have been able to host exhibits, community lectures, and more. The Museum is run entirely by volunteers, and depends on donations and grants. Regular opening hours are 12PM - 4PM, Wednesday through Sunday.
The vision of the Sulphur Springs Museum is:
- To revitalize Sulphur Springs in such a way that the historic integrity and importance of the neighborhood is maintained and accentuated.
- To encourage economic growth and expansion that benefits the neighborhood and the city of Tampa.
- To respect and preserve the natural features located in the Sulphur Springs area.
- To promote a safe, clean environment for the neighborhood children and all who live in Sulphur Springs
