The office is well run and it is always easy to get in touch with someone when I need them. Dr. Mellert was kind and knowledgeable and very caring. They have helped and continue to help me on my weight loss journey which is going fantastic.
Made appointment to see Dr Z ... Never saw him! Had issues from surgery done in past. He never saw me. I was passed off to a dietitian and she did nothing for me other getting both colonoscopy and endoscopy. Never was called about results or return appointment. What you see on TV is a joke about about there caring of patients health.
The lack of concern, communication from the Dr, nurses, and the ENTIRE team is appalling. Being treated as 'less than' is unacceptable. I suggest to people who are looking into weight loss surgery to go to St. Vincent's in Cleveland.
Dr Adrian Dan is the best! Roux en Y procedure took longer than expected due to adhesions but he didn’t give up on me. 32 pound loss just 1 month post op and I feel better than I have in years. Already off all medications for diabetes and high blood pressure. The process takes time but embrace it and learn as much as you can. So worth it. Thank you Dr Dan and all the staff. You are awesome. Thank you for my new life!
So I've had multiple experiences with Summa specifically the Akron city hospital. My husband, myself and my mom have had surgeries here and other then a couple rude nurses the experience was great. They're helpful, attentive, knowledgeable. Our surgeon Dr.Zogafrakis is amazing and the most personable dr I've ever met in my life.
No words. Just hope you never have wound issues and then have them tell you that everything is perfectly fine. I had to see got a wound care specialist and now my surgeon completely refuses to even look at my wound because of the doctor at the wound care center providing care for an incision that is now 6 weeks out that still has not healed with a large amount of drainage. I would rather just have my primary care physician take care of me from here on out rather than go back and pay CO pays just so they can make money.
I have been going through this process with this office since January of 2016. I have had bumps in the road with them during the process but never driven to the point to write a review. My surgeon was Dr. Dan. I have had many, many office visits with them throughout this journey. I have been kept waiting in the examination room many, many times by the doctor and for considerable periods of time but I just kept going along. Today, I had an appointment scheduled for my one year check post surgery. My appointment time was 9:50. I signed in at 9:55, five minutes late. They refused to see me and wanted to reschedule my appointment. I said "over 5 minutes?". I was given a lecture about how busy the doctor was. I walked out of the office. The receptionist chased me down in the hallway to give me a parking token. I told her "after all this time, after the countless times I have waited for that doctor in the exam room, the countless amount of time I have waited for him and he now refuses to see me over 5 minutes? I do not know who he thinks he is but he is not that to me." I will never go back. What kind of a pathetic and unacceptable healthcare provider would refuse to see a patient over 5 minutes? I want anyone who is considering this office for surgery to know that this is how patients are treated, given no respect, value or importance. Instead, please go find another surgeon's practice who genuinely cares for and respects their patients. You will not get that here. I believe that I will also notify the hospital this practice is associated with as well as my insurance company of the way I was treated today.
Was not pleased with my appointment at all. Came in for my post op appointment. Medical assistant Janice poppy called me to back, I immediately notice her attitude, I ignored it thinking she’s probably having a bad morning. Until we got to the back and she began asking me questions with a rude, dry tone. I answer each question until she got to the last question asking me do I have children, I said yes I have four, she then replied with a very sarcastic tone “you have four kids and your only 29?! I then stated yes I do With my husband whom I was with since I was 16.I shouldn’t have to explain that She then asked if my kids father was active in their life I then stated with a smart reply yes that’s my HUSBAND who I just said I’ve been with since I was 16. She then said” will some kids fathers aren’t in their life. In my head I’m like why do you assume mines not in their life KAREN. I was so shocked by her response the nerve of her to even assume such thing. I could be very judge-mental and told her a little toto be working as a MA and she should do better but that’s not my business. I waited for my physician to come in so I can let her know what was said. I explained to her that her medical assistant juanice poppy comments were inappropriate and had nothing to do with my appointment. dr Samantha Emerson looked at me and said “I’m sure she didn’t mean it” lmao. I figured she would say that I then replied saying” I’m sure she didn’t.” For her to brush off the comment and defend that lady disregarding my concerns was a huge problem for me.
I am still in awe of how well my surgery went. Had the RNY and was so nervous about all the what ifs that I almost backed out. The staff, Team of Physicians, Dietitians were all so wonderful that it caused a peace inside that I knew that this was the right thing to do. I was slowly killing myself due to depression and over eating and this Team of Doctors saved my life. I'm forever grateful to Dr Z and all the Great people around him. My journey isn't over, but my journey has just begun. If you're thinking about weight loss surgery, do not hesitate to give the Summa Bariatric team a call. The team will get you all the help that you need.
I'm going through the process right now. I love Dr. Dan but some of his staff could use a lot of improvement. They never return phone calls, which makes me wonder how responsive they will be once I've had my surgery. Makes me feel very extremely concerned, which is something I should never feel while going through such a serious process.
