Sumter County Fire and Rescue serves and protects the citizens of Sumter County Georgia.
Sumter County Fire and Rescue serves the unincorporated areas of Sumter County including the cities of Plains, Andersonville, and Desoto. We protect approximately 15,000 citizens in this coverage area. In addition SCFR has automatic mutual aid agreements with six counties in the surrounding area. SCFR call volume has increased by 8% each year since our founding in 2009.
SCFR is a combination department. We have career firefighters, volunteer inmate firefighters, and volunteer firefighters and support personnel on staff.
These personnel work out of our four manned stations which are staffed 24/7 as well as 18 sub-stations strategically placed throughout the county, which house a fire apparatus (pumper/engine or tanker).
The Mission of the Sumter County Fire and Rescue is to preserve life and property in our community by providing services directed at the prevention and control of fires, accidents, and medical emergencies, while maintaining the highest standards of professionalism, efficiency and effectiveness.
