Sun and Cricket was one of the most memorable stays for us. The location of this B&B was perfect. It is close to civilization yet provides one the feeling of being far away in the country. The property is fantastic with a beautiful hayfield and a barn with lovely horses to visit. We stayed in the cabin adjacent to the main house. Tara and John are wonderful hosts - super friendly and very accommodating. Our custom made breakfast was beyond phenomenal. Tara makes a delicious breakfast that would rival any five star hotel. The cabin has ample room for a couple with a dining and living room area on the first floor and bedroom and powder room/shower on the second floor. It was super cozy and extremely comfortable. The bedding was very comfy too. Just a note, if you have mobility issues, the tight spiral staircase to the second floor might be an issue. The cabin and entire property is very clean and meticulously maintained. Honestly, Tara and John were so friendly it felt like we were staying with good friends. I highly recommend this very nice and comfortable B&B.
This B&B is an amazing stay for couples or the whole family! It is nestled on 35 acres farmland, less than 30 minutes drive from Pittsburgh. We went to the Zoo for a great event, and had a peaceful and relaxing evening in the log cabin. Then in the morning Tara made us an excellent breakfast of quiche, teas, and pastries, and afterwards we wandered the farmland to see the horses where John showed us around the carriage home and stables and offered to help us take a dip in the pool! A very unique property and experience, highly recommend staying here over a weekend or for a long stay vacation!
My wife and I first stayed at the Sun & Cricket shortly after getting married 2 years ago. Since then we've made it a tradition to spend the weekend there for our anniversary, having just spent our third weekend in the Carriage House. We've only ever stayed at the Carriage House, and I think it will always be our preferred location. We absolutely love the proximity to the horses Mariah, Cody and Stargazer and being welcomed by the two barn cats Chief and Joe. The Carriage House also provides a more private feel as it's a good distance from the main house and log cabin. Each and every experience has been outstanding. Tara and John are fantastic hosts. We can't get enough of Tara's breakfasts German puff pancakes are my personal favorite and both Tara and John always provide warm and welcoming conversation. The swimming pool is beautiful and we always make sure to take full advantage of it if the weather cooperates. When we're at the Sun & Cricket, it's hard to believe that we're only 20 minutes from downtown Pittsburgh. It really feels like a whole different world. We look forward to continuing our tradition at our home away from home for years to come. If you're in from out of town or just need a little getaway close to home, I highly recommend a stay at the Sun & Cricket!
We were in town for a baseball tournament and couldn't find a hotel room anywhere. So thankful for that. Staying at Sun and Cricket was such a great experience. Tara and John were super sweet and friendly. My boys enjoyed picking and eating apples from the apple trees, walking on the trails and visiting the horses in the barn. The property is absolutely gorgeous and well maintained. If our baseball schedule doesn't bring us back to this area, we will make a trip just to spend more time here.
I took my wife for an overnight to celebrate her birthday, and we stayed in the log cabin. It was extremely clean and charming and even though we are from the South Hills of Pittsburgh, we felt like we were transported to a completely different place. Tara and John were both extremely helpful and accommodating. Breakfast was amazing! We could not have asked for a better experience and definitely plan to go back.
We booked the Log Cabin at the last minute the first weekend in January - the coldest day on record. When we returned from our event, the logs and kindling already in the fireplace. It was a very serene and cozy setting for two tired parents of a toddler. We thoroughly enjoyed our conversation with Tara in the morning over a homemade breakfast of baked apples, and open-faced breakfast sandwiches. Highly recommend!
Enjoyable Labor day Weekend... Found out about this gem of a B&B 7 years ago when thinking about a romantic getaway for my girlfriend and I. I proposed back then and we have been back 6 times since, this past weekend with our 4 year old son... The hospitality and setting are awesome. Two very friendly golden retrievers, and two cats that will greet you on arrival. Quarter Morgan horses and the deer at the tree line at sunset...The Carriage House is our favorite, the log cabin is extra special, too... The prepared breakfasts always different each day - Apple French Toast, Chocolate Waffles smothered in maple syrup and raspberries - are my favorite and mouth watering egg sandwiches are to die for. The proprietors are the best and they strive to go the extra mile to assure that your stay is beyond expectation have never failed to succeed on every occasion, for us. We come back time an time again to see the sights in and around Pittsburgh, but we will only stay here!
They do a wonderful job at this bed and breakfast of making you feel comfortable and at home. The breakfasts are made with care and are some of the best meals I have had in my life. She uses fresh grown fruit and makes a variety of filling and tasty dishes. We stayed at the log cabin and it was very cozy. Any questions we had they readily answered. They have a beautiful farm and enjoyable pool and are located very nicely near plenty of fun stores, restaurants and entertainment facilities. One night we had leftover ice cream and Tara gladly put it in her freezer for us. She also washed any dishes we made even if they were ours. My wife and I are planning on staying here again whenever we are in town!
I visited this place, Sun and Cricket B&B today, and its grounds and gardens are absolutely gorgeous. The owners John and Tara are so kind, helpful, and very hard-working to maintain the surroundings in this beautiful country setting. I would highly recommend the Sun and Cricket B&B for any occasion, a special occasion, a night or two getaway, or even just a roadtrip stay over. I copied a few pictures from their website, I hope they don't mind, but really people, if lit'l getaways are your thing, this place is a must see. Check out their website for yourself.
The Sun and Cricket Bed and breakfast is a lovely place to stay. Our family has stayed there several times while visiting relatives nearby. The owner's hospitality has always made us feel welcome. The grounds are very pretty and my children especially love the delicious breakfasts and animals on the property. The accommodations feel more like home than a hotel.
