Superman – Ride of Steel

Description

Superman – Ride of Steel is a steel roller coaster located at Six Flags America amusement park near Upper Marlboro, Maryland. Ride of Steel is an identical model located at Darien Lake amusement park in Darien, New York. Both are hypercoasters reaching heights above, and were manufactured by Intamin. The installation at Darien Lake opened to the public on May 15, 1999, and the replica at Six Flags America opened a year later on May 13, 2000. Six Flags New England's Superman the Ride roller coaster was previously known as "Superman – Ride of Steel" prior to 2009, but it features a significantly different layout.VR experienceOn March 3, 2016, Six Flags announced that the ride would be one of several rides at various Six Flags parks to feature a VR system. Riders have the option of wearing a Samsung Gear VR headset, powered by Oculus to create a 360-degree, 3D experience while riding. It is themed to Superman saving a city from Lex Luthor's Lex Bots who are causing chaos with an anti-gravity ray. This theming will also come to the Superman: Krypton Coaster at Six Flags Fiesta Texas and Superman: The Ride at Six Flags New England.

"SUPERMAN is pretty much the most extreme Super Hero working today: over-sized strength, mega speed, and pretty much at the top of his class when it comes to flying. It makes sense that the steel adventure bearing his name and famous logo on every car would be just as extreme.Welcome to the world of the hypercoaster. This all-new category of roller coaster is so intense they had to come up with a whole new category for it. Hypercoasters are the modern breed of oversized roller coaster that are pumped up to more than 200 feet tall. SUPERMAN: Ride of Steel easily clears that distinction, with a height of 205 feet and a mind-blowing 200-foot drop."

Best hyper rollercoaster ever, with forceful helixes and 2 hills with some G's and 2 bunny hops that make you fly out of your seat!
This is one of the top ten best steel coasters in the USA! Why do I say that? First, I've ridden about 750 different roller coasters and Superman has some of the best "airtime", ie. negative G forces anywhere. Plus the big drops and positive G forces are amazing as well! Beats the other big coasters in the Mid-Atlantic region!
I enjoyed this ride fine, but unfortunately I think it's a worse version of Ride of Steel at Darien Lake. The restraints aren't as roomy and make the ride's forces, airtime, and laterals less comfortable, and it's not set over the water either. A good ride, but not my first pick.
This is arguably the best coaster at the park, and one of the few that takes photos, but it's almost always CLOSED. I don't feel you get your money's worth when you can't ride this one. PLEASE FIX THIS RIDE - so we can actually enjoy it! Not worth going to this park otherwise.
Great ride. The first drop is a lot of fun
Wow. Insane speed, insane positive Gs and floater airtime on every hill, with some crazy ejector at the end. Please, for the love of god, treat yourself and ride this.
Fun coaster, but weird layout and bad restraints. The helixes and straight track are kinda pointless. Recommend riding in the front because there’s a noticeable rattle in the back!
This is an excellent hyper coaster by Intamin. It provides some very good airtime moments especially the second camelback and the finale. Plus I don't mind the shin guards at all and the ride is very smooth. Overall, an awesome ride experience
I was too scared to go on this coaster for several YEARS. Then my brother went on it and finally convinced me to try it out and I ended up loving it! That first drop is so intimidating but exhilarating. Don't be afraid like me and try it out!
My friend Cate and I was on this ride and she got smacked in the face with a life jacket, knocking her out for a couple of seconds. This was uncalled for, but still, an undeniable experience. Where did this life jacket even come from?? I don’t know. 4 out of 5 stars would definitly come back again.
