My brother ran into problems this morning and since he is 16, I told my mom to take him to Swedish since they are the only hospital that deals with kids in house…He was taken to the ER and was able to get a room right away, nurse started an IV right away and doctor was in room discussing the plan… no sooner doc stepping out the imaging team was already in setting up him. His emergency could have potentially needed emergency surgery and they took every step serious with no hesitation or slowness. From my point of view Swedish is potentially the better of the 3 hospitals in the Rockford area.
If I could rate Swedish American zero I would! I was taken to Swedish American emergency room by ambulance with A-fib irregular heart beat. EMT put in an IV. When arriving at sweds EMT told staff I wasn't for triage and needed a room asap. I was left sitting in a chair in a hallway for over an hour before someone took my info. Then I was placed in a room with with the IV saline drip hung so low it couldn't drip. I had to ask 3 staff members for an IV pole before anyone actually helped me after shift changeWhen lab staff came to get me they couldn't find me because I was set aside in this room and wasn't where I was supposed to be they lost me according to lab staff People placed in that same room with minor issues were tended to before me and the room was eventually empty besides myself. After almost 6 hours of waiting and no one has helped me, I decided to leave. It wasn't until then that I got attention from multiple staff members and security running after me like a criminal. I went to a different hospital and was treated immediately. This hospital is negligent and risking peoples lives. Highly do not recommend Swedish American especially for an emergency situation. I could've had a serious stroke and staff would've kept walking past me and ignoring my existence.
My husband was in this hospital for over three days recently with appendix problems. Everyone on the staff was helpful and kind. The treatment was excellent. While no one wants to be in the hospital, his stay was very tolerable. Even the food is good! And the artwork in the main lobby is nice. This IS the best hospital in the Rockford area. My only complaint is that if Fox so-called News is available on the TV, why not MSNBC?
I had an obstructing kidney stone and hydronephrosis and sever pain. They admitted me and gave me pain medication only and sent me home. Went back for recurrent pain, they didn’t do anything. I had to go to a urologist in Chicago took me for emergent surgery to save my kidney that was full of pus. I will report their negligence to IDPH.
I got awesome care this past week for acute anemia. The doctors, technicians, and nurses were awesome, and I was blessed with one nurse who was absolutely spectacular, his name was Tyler. This is an older hospital, and admittedly, the facility is a little rough that's why I gave a 4 instead of a 5! But I can't say enough good things about the staff, and the quality of care I received! I was glad when I found out I was being transferred from another Hospital, due to lack of a specialist to treat me. In 2015, I had a heart attack, and was also treated at Swedish American, and I was thrilled with my care back then, too! I'm at an age when "things happen," and whenever I have a choice, I hope to be treated at Swedish American, and hope to be lucky enough to have Tyler as one of my nurses!
I am going to give the worse possible review about Swedish American Hospital in Rockford, IL. I spent Eight hours with my loved one in the waiting room of the ED and was still NOT seen by a physician but got blood work and vital signs done. Was very polite and patient with the staff to the very end. Would ask reception Area staff if they could give me an estimate wait time to see a doctor they said they could not “there’s no beds open” My loved one needed to be seen and was sent by another facility to be checked out first then be admitted at that facility. I understand when some people have more of a life and death emergency but there was individuals they were not bleeding, dying etc, was seen about an injured hand arm etc. and got seen before my loved one that could have overdosed or had alcohol poisoning etc or it could have been a real life or death situation. The staff had no sympathy for my loved one what so ever. When my loved one asked the reception area staff their names they refused and wouldn’t show their ID badges. This is a very big concern for me. And other individuals that are going to this hospital to seek treatment and that are being treated horribly and with no respect or dignity. I wouldn’t even rate or give it any stars
Went into hospital with a slightly swollen upper right side of my abdomen. Gave my history explained I had a pain inside that felt like a bruise on an organ. The told me to take an antacid at the highest dose possible because she thinks I have a stomach ulcer. I don't have acid reflux symptoms other than nausea. They put in an IV for a CT scan they never took. Someone should've done something before making a diagnosis and dismissing me.
My wife came in with stroke symptoms. She was treated with respect. The medical team was amazing. The room was clean and safe. This is the best ER and hospital in the Nation.
Arrived this morning at 745 this morning to be seen. They quickly checked me and did vitals and quickly commented on how I was dehydrated and asked me for a urine sample. They tested me in triage for Covid, flu and rsv and returned me to the lobby to wait saying that someone would come get me to get labs and when I had to get use the bathroom let them know. 1 hour pass and my friend who went with me asked if they knew how much longer it would be and they rudely say they would call me back sooner or later. Ok fine. I get it they are busy and there was a car accident. I go up to the window after another hour passes and ask for some water. They tell me no. No reason why. Just no, but they also tell me to please hurry with the urine sample. But I can’t have water. So we keep waiting I’m reluctant to go elsewhere because at this point I’ve been waiting 2 hours. Another hour passes of barely anyone getting called back but a lot of people coming in. Elderly people needing help getting others out of cars with wheelchairs and getting attitude from the people at the front desk. It isn’t your business how they got in the car in the first place but now they are at your emergency department and they need your help so get a wheelchair and get them help. Don’t get a attitude. At the 3 hour mark my boyfriend calls wondering what is going on and I told him how I hadn’t even been called to a room. I finally left after 3 hours of nothing drove 40 minutes to Beloit hospital where they actually take care of their patients.
