Finally was able to visit an actual location and not a food truck for Sweetwater Tavern. Which was good because the wings from the food truck were not as good as at the restaurant. The wings are super tasty with the right amount of heat and marinade for 24 hours to get them that way. Also got the rib tips and fries with Cole slaw all of which were delicious with seasoning on the fries and juicy slaw. The rib tips were tender cooked perfectly, some of them were pretty bony. Good to know we can get good wings here now because they have several locations, this one's there newest from what it said in the restaurant.
This is definitely a locals' spot in Downtown Detroit. We stopped here for a bite mid-week as it was close to our hotel, the GM Renaissance Centre, and it was one of the only places open late night. It's a very popular place and was packed inside when we arrived. After about a 20 minute wait, we got a booth. It was a lively atmosphere, with loud music and lots of talking and laughing. There were even customers dancing by the tables inside. There was bar and booth seating available. It's an older restaurant for sure, but seemed to be fairly clean. The wings were promoted on their menu and highly recommended by the waitress so we opted to try them with a side of Mac and cheese. The wings were huge, juicy meat with a relatively spicy coating and a delicious crispy skin. I can definitely see why they are award winning. The mac and cheese was very cheesy and gooey, and tasted homemade. The only downside was that it was a tiny portion for $4.25 - definitely not big enough to share. The servers were also great. At one point, we started getting harassed by a customer at the bar and our server stepped in to intervene and to make sure we were ok. We were very appreciative of that. Overall, great spot for a beer and late night bite. Parking: Street parking
Love this place! I have been going here for over 25 years! I have tried just about everything on the menu. Everything from the meatloaf, Cobb salad, collard greens, mac&Cheese, and last but not least their famous Sweetwater Wings with Seasoned fries! I haven't tried anything that wasn't tasty. Well....the mac&Cheese is a hit or miss from time to time. When it's busy they are a little slow but I am so happy they are back open after being closed for over a year! I believe there was a fire. They remained closed for over a year. They just reopened January 31 2022. Same staff, place looks the same and the wings & fries are still outstanding! They have several locations. Check them out!
Grabbed some dinner from with my brother on a Tuesday evening. We ordered macaroni and cheese, onion rings appetizer, chicken tender & wing combo with seasoned fries, and a wing & chicken tender combo with fries. Our meals were awesome! Great service as well.
Its a downtown bar with its own vibe. Cool interior brick. Our waitress was super friendly as was everyone there. The wings and seasoned fries are so good. I hadn't been there in years. Still really good!Food: 5/5
Everything was much too salty. I felt my blood pressure rising as I was eating. The french fries were really good. The side salad was terrible. I was very disappointed I was really looking forward to eating at this place because I heard the food was amazing. I will try the one in Eastpoint.
Great wings with plenty on meat in the bone. Sauce is a good mix of sweet and spicy. Chicken is cooked perfectly, nice and juicy. Service is fast and the staff are very polite and friendly. All beers are bottle as their is no draft.Recommended dishesSteak Bites, Sweetwater Wings and Fries, Chicken Wings, Seasoned Fries
Bomb wings. Was staying across the street at courtyard Marriott and went to the city Market. The security guard there referred us to Sweetwater. It was a bomb environment. Good music. Great food!
It was late after a concert in downtown Detroit and we had to find food. This place is a bar but the food is great. I got a burger and after not eating for a while it tasted real good. Cooked to the medium well like I said and seasoned nice. Some might think it's too salty, but after a long concert and not drinking much water, I welcomed it If you need food in Detroit at 11pm, come here.
Best wings I've ever had. Good enough that I'll make a trip to Detroit just to grab some for dinner. Also, very reasonably priced for being in downtown, and close to Comerica Park and Ford Field. Highly recommend to anyone looking for wings and beer in the area.
