Overall a great national forest campground somewhat close to Yosemite. It's also close to Rainbow Pool and a cool vista point on highway 120. However it's right next to the highway and cars can be heard all the time.
Beautiful cozy and quiet campground, on a first come first serve basis. Not listed on recreation.gov, but the campground is well-maintained and there is a kind campground host present. Vault toilets are clean. We arrived around 10am late May, and there were a couple of spots available.
A really nice campground outside the entrance to Yosemite. I've stayed here a few times, and can recommend it. It's first come, first served, and I haven't had trouble finding a spot. The campground is in a nice area. There’s a lot of fire damage around it, but it’s still starkly beautiful. The South Fork of the Tuolumne River flows nearby and there are a few nice spots there too. The rangers here are great too – they're very friendly and helpful. One downside is the difficulty in getting in. The turn is a bit tricky to navigate, and after that comes a very narrow one-lane road. Another is the proximity to the road, so you can hear cars throughout the night. These aren't dealbreakers by any means, though.
Great first come first serve campground reasonably close to Yosemite. Site 1 has some decent shade, flat ground, and a good amount of space for 2-3 tents. My only warnings would be for the road/construction noise, and to keep an eye out for a couple of skunks that are roaming around at night.
Great campground to explore Yosemite. The hosts were incredible and so accommodating. Very kind and do a great job keeping the campground clean. The pit toilets are the cleanest I’ve ever seen in a campground. I was originally a bit deterred by some of the reviews with the highway noise - they made it seem like you were sleeping on the I5. We were one of the closest sites to the highway and heard nothing all 3 nights we were there. Will definitely use this as our Yosemite home base in the future!
Stayed here for two nights in an Rv. Bench fire pit with grill on every campsite. Has portable water for people to share. Quiet hours were from 10pm to 7am I think. If running a generator, they allow you to run in until 10pm which was great because we went in July and it was hot for our 2month old and 2 year old. Night cooled down. 1 hour away from Yosemite valley. Great place to stay if you couldn’t get reservation in Yosemite valley.
Great spot just a little tricky getting there- one way road in, head in traffic could be bad, as there are no turn outs. Beautiful though with good river access and a couple sandy beaches.
Loved it because it on the side of the road but that's exactly why I hated it also. You can hear traffic all night long. If you are here alone it's a great safe place to stay or if you don't plan on spending much time here it's perfect on your way to the Valley.
We enjoyed this first come first serve campground as a base for exploring Yosemite. The sites were spacious and easily fit 2 tents. It was under an hour drive from the valley. We were able to snag sites during the week without an issue. The water is turned off right now so bring your own. As others have mentioned, it is close to hwy 120 so you do hear some car traffic in the morning.
It gets two stars because the bathrooms were not a mess. This site costs $24. It has no showers. No rubbing water in the bathroom. The place also has a huge wasp problem and the people who oversee the campgrounds know about it. No shade. Also signage for snake and bear warnings. There are better places anywhere.
