Swissvale Fire Department

Has success spoiled the Swissvale FD Fish Fry? Have enjoyed it for several years getting take-out through other family members, but yesterday afternoon I decided to stop by and pick some up. At first blush the operation is quite orderly and professional. Three order takers at computer workstations, each with a telephone, who offered to text you when the order was ready, which was initially estimated at 20 minutes. I decided to wait among the fire trucks for my order number to be called. Fast forward to about 50 minutes later, when myself and about 15 others were approached for our order numbers. About 10 minutes later my order was finally ready. Upon leaving, a sign has been posted on the door stating "SOLD OUT" except for orders placed in advance. The workers' t-shirts say "our batter is better". That may be true, but I didn't expect more batter than fish, which is basically what I got. Even with the sophisticated setup, is it possible that the Fire Department has bitten off more than it can chew in terms of the popularity of its fish fry? I'm sure they wouldn't accept a reduction in the quality of the critical services they provide every day. I'm also sure they will evaluate the service provided every Friday during Lent, and see how they can return to what used to be.

What a great fish fry. Huge chunk of real fish fried perfect, good Mac n cheese and yummy hush puppies for a great price. Have lots of other sides toonot tried. Alot better than expected for a charity dinner.
