Sycamore Island is a great place to fish, boat, picnic, watch wildlife, and enjoy nature. Located west of Highway 41 near Children's Hospital of Central California, the property is owned by the State of California's San Joaquin River Conservancy as part of the San Joaquin River Parkway. The site is now operated by the San Joaquin River Parkway and Conservation Trust.

Sycamore Island is a 347 acres of river bottom public land acquired in 2005 through a joint transaction with the the San Joaquin River Conservancy, The Trust for Public Land, and the San Joaquin River Parkway and Conservation Trust. Sycamore Island, Spano River Ranch and the Van Buren Unit, approximately 1,200 acres, make up the River West Open Space Area--a master plan area for public access and outdoor recreation on the Parkway.
Sycamore Island is open to the public on Fridays, weekends, and all state holidays. The property includes a number of fishing ponds created by previous sand & gravel mining. It also provides excellent access to the river itself for fishing and small boats.
Sycamore Island has riparian woodlands inhabited by mule deer, coyotes, waterfowl and other wildlife. Numerous walking pathways make the property an excellent bird and watchable wildlife area.
