Takoma Park Alternative Care evaluates both adult and pediatric patients for the DC and MD Medical Cannabis Programs. Takoma Park Alternative Care strives to provide compassionate and individualized service in a quiet and discreet setting. The physician takes the time to properly educate patients on what to expect, pros and cons, dosage, strain/product recommendation, methods of consumption, and possible side effects and drug interactions. Many conditions such as chronic pain syndromes due to degenerative disc disease, spinal stenosis, psoriatic, gouty, and osteoarthritis, diabetic neuropathy, fibromyalgia; severe migraines, Crohn's disease, IBS and hepatitis C are only but a few of the conditions that benefit from medicinal cannabis therapy. Patients under the age of 18, if accompanied by a parent or guardian, can be evaluated for conditions that would justify the use of medicinal cannabis, such as, but not limited to, intractable seizures and migraines, chronic pain syndromes, cancer related pain and palliative care. The office is conveniently located in Takoma Park (close to the DC line and Takoma Metro.) in Montgomery County. The initial fee includes a three month follow up visit.
Patricia Frye M.D., who is highly experienced in the medical benefits and therapeutic effects of medicinal cannabis, heads Takoma Park Alternative Care. Dr. Frye is an independent physician consultant with a focus on medical cannabis and the role it plays in the management of chronic pain, inflammation, autoimmunity, spasticity and overall improvement on the quality of life in chronic and debilitating medical conditions. Dr. Frye has worked closely with patients and referring clinicians to develop a sound treatment plan that is based on both anecdotal and scientific evidence.
Prior to developing an interest in medicinal cannabis, Dr Frye spent most of her career in Southern California where she practiced pediatrics at Kaiser Permanente. During this time she managed not only acutely ill patients, but also patients with autistic spectrum disorder, learning disabilities, developmental disabilities, and behavior problems.
Dr. Frye earned her medical degree at the University of Maryland School of Medicine. After graduation, she remained to complete her pediatric residency, and then went on to Baylor College of Medicine where she completed a fellowship year in anesthesiology. There she gained experience in medical pain management and pain management procedures. Dr. Frye has furthered her education, by means of extensive independent study, and has gained an appreciable understanding of how the various components of the cannabis plant, phytocannabinoids and terpenes, interact and the role they play in the modulation of pain and other chronic conditions.
