Tamara A. Insteness, AGNP, BSN, MSN, APRN-C, chose to pursue a nursing degree for the endless opportunities that are available from choice of age group to specialty area and setting. “There are also ways in which to move from direct patient care to leadership roles. Nurses are also involved in research, education, and in the legislature. Nursing allows me to be a part of others’ lives. I am able to provide compassionate care to others in time of sickness as well as in times of health. Nursing is rewarding in that your patients give you just as much as you give them”, she says about her career choice. Tamara enjoys what she does. She enjoys working with the elderly as each one is unique with their own story to tell. So many of them have given of themselves and made sacrifices to raise their own families, they deserve someone who is compassionate and caring when they no longer can care for themselves or just need a helping hand. They also deserve a good quality of life, whatever that means to them. “Every day is a new day, I look for the positive in every situation. I make sure that my patients get the time and attention they need and deserve. I encourage my patients to be active participants in their own health care to the best of their ability, and include family in health care decisions when appropriate. I make myself available to families to answer questions when they arise about their loved ones’ care. I take advantage of every teaching moment as they arise” says Tamara about how she makes a difference in the lives of her patients. For more information about Tamara A.
