Freemasonry is a society of men whom are dedicated to the upbringing of moral character and the preservation of personal freedom of all its members. We are NOT by any means a cult, fanatic group or any type of religon. However, each member must express a belief in GOD, and is done so without any reguard to whichever religious denomination you may belong to. Throughout the United States there are approximatly 2.5 Million Masons. In Tennessee, we number approximatly 55,000. Masons are taught that they should never neglect their families or their church. Masonry comes after these obligations are fulfilled.
Masons are taught to obey the laws of the country in which they reside. In the United States, the Masons have many patriotic activities. All meetings include the Pledge of Allegiance to the flag of the United States of America.
We are an organization that promotes free-thinking for all mankind. Many notible people in Tennessee have been masons. These include: Andrew Jackson, James Polk, Andrew Johnson, Roy Acuff, 28 Governors, and many members of Congress.
