We really enjoyed this stop! We have ancestors who were part of the founding of Buffalo Gap,TX, so this was so neat to see and take the kids to! A lot of neat history, I love that things are not barred off so children do get a full experience parents be responsible! Only thing I would say a bit negative, it was extremely dusty, spider webs, mice droppings... things could be kept up a lot better.
I love history that you don’t learn in school and seeing things from the past. We stopped here and enjoyed looking back at the some of the historical buildings that they preserved here in this walking museum. Leaned some fun facts as well!Visited onWeekdayWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedYesPrice for adult entry$6–10
It looks like a real interesting place but was closed when I arrived on Christmas Eve. I hope to make it back some day to see all the buildings and walk the grounds.
Very nice and informative historical site. Great price for all that was offered. Really enjoyed the self walking tour to go at your own pace.
Neat little gem nestled in Buffalo Gap. The buildings give you a snapshot of what things were like in Taylor County at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries. The only downfall was the amount of dust on the furnishings/antiques and on the glass display cases. There was so much dust on the display cases that people had written things in the dust which really detracted from the treasures contained within.
We all like seeing history preserved so it was a perfect idea to visit.Visited onWeekdayWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNot sure
We took a picnic lunch and spent the afternoon exploring the buildings, playing on the marri-go-round, and reading fun facts. There are about 10 building including a bank, post office, jail, court house, blacksmith, and gas station on 4 acres. There is a covered picnic area and small play ground. This site is part of Abilene's Round Up pass available at the Abilene visitor center making it a fun cheap activity.
We had a great experience when we visited. Lots of historical information. Friendly staff.
The boys loved this, all the exploration and thinking of how it must have been then. We hope this is always here, they have made plans to return when they are older.
Interesting to walk through the time period in these buildings. I will say it is kind of run down and dirty with lots of cobwebs but worth seeing if in the area with an hour to spare.
