Specialized Art Instruction with an emphasis on Art History
I first started teaching art to my daughters, and soon realized that everyone has a different path to achieving their creative vision.
What I especially enjoy is guiding beginning artists and helping them achieve that vision, by providing them with the creative tools they need to realize their ambitions.
I begin with designing a custom program, geared toward their goals. Incorporating art history from primitive art, through the renaissance, modernism and contemporary trends, and how artists like Leonardo, Raphael, Poussin, Watteau, influenced later artists like Manet, Mattisse, Picasso and Jackson Pollack, and how students can incorporate their visual ideas in their creative vision.
Instruction begins with drawing instruction, using pencil, charcoal, pastel, and geared toward the student’s interest, whether it’s traditional still life, landscape or portraiture, sculpture, then using those tools to explore color theory, perspective, abstraction and sculpture.
Field trips to LACMA, the Norton Simon Museum and MOCA as well as plein aire, outdoor painting days are part of the program.
For older students, portfolio preparation for art school is included.
