"Teachers in Action with Persons with Disabilities through High-Tech High-Touch Service-Learning"
"Teachers in Action with Persons with Disabilities through High-Tech High-Touch Service Learning" is a partnership between the University of Central Florida and UCP (United Cerebral Palsy) of Central Florida that engages undergraduate education majors and other future teachers in meaningful service-learning activities with persons with disabilities. The partnership meets important needs of both populations, offering essential field experiences for aspiring teachers while creating a dedicated volunteer force assisting children, youth and adults with disabilities in Central Florida.
* Create a model program for Florida's colleges of teacher education
* Increase preservice teachers' understanding of special populations and sense of civic responsibility
* Provide a trained, sustainable volunteer workforce
* Deliver continuous, interactive, and developmentally appropriate social, educational, physical programming to persons with disabilities.
Over 3,000 pre-service teachers will participate in "Teachers in Action" over the course of the three-year grant period. An estimated 15,000 persons with disabilities will receive services, attend events, or volunteer alongside "Teachers in Action" participants.
