Very strict. No sleeping allowed, not even putting your head down. You will get interrupted by a security officer if you even look like you're sleeping all I did was put my head down to close my eyes for ONE MINUTE and a security guard loudly knocked on my desk telling me no sleeping allowed, interrupting my moment of peace and meditation. I had been awake since 5 AM, came back from work to study and do homework, so I just wanted to take a little break and close my eyes for a few minutes to refresh my mind. But nope, not allowed. And oh boy, never ever take your shoes off at this library while you're reading or studying, even if it's a private study area. They will disrupt your peace just to tell you to put your shoes on like it's illegal. These may be small things but it's annoying and ridiculous that I can't relax freely at the library in fear a security officer will come up to me for breaking some arbitrary rule. What I was doing wasn’t even making any noise or disrupting the peace. Who knows what's next, sitting in my chair too “improperly”? I have never had this happen at any other library, and I go to a lot of libraries. I would understand if I was eating food, but just putting my head down isn’t allowed? I loved this library at first but these experiences have completely soured it for me. Gives "Big Brother is always watching" vibes. By the way, this has all happened on the only 2 times I have come here, all by the same female security guard. And it isn’t just me, she also did the same to the person sitting behind me who also got annoyed. Won't come back to study here again. Mountain View library, please fire this lady. Just her walking past me interferes with my peace now. Does not feel like a safe space at all, feels like I will get in trouble for no reason.
I've been visiting this library for more than 25 years. It's a nice location. There is plenty of space on the second floor to study. They have booths if you prefer some extra privacy. Tables of course are shared, and there are quiet zones to facilitate the quietness that used to characterize the typical library atmosphere. My problem with studying here, is that the library employees are often far noisier than the patrons. I'm sitting on the second floor at a table trying to read and study, and what I hear most is the lady at the desk talking super loud to everyone who asks her a question. It's as if she, a library employee, doesn't realize that she works in a library setting and everyone is supposed to respect the quiet atmosphere that most people come to the library for. Even louder of course are the library employees who restock the shelves. They slam those books into place, as if they have a serious attitude, and make a lot of noise doing so. It's quite annoying. My advice to the library employees, especially at the front desk on the second floor. Be quiet!
The toddler area is quite nice. Besides having plenty of books, they also have different puzzles that keep kids entertained. There is also a nice park outside where they do story times and a playground within walking distance.
It's a great library with a decent selection of books, DVDs, and all sorts of stuff. You can even rent audiobooks. There are study rooms which you can reserve, and they're great for craming projects with a few mates. They run a bunch of programs and events, I haven't been personally but it seems like good fun. There's a sort of "gift shop", that's located close to the front desk, and it's great for children. Speaking of which, there's a whole wing of the building dedicated to children's books. Outside the back of the library is a park that's nice for chilling out at.
Very hard to find seating between 10 am-7 pm. Can get hot inside, the ac does not blow hard. Study rooms are always booked. Late closing hour at 9 is very convenient.
Great place for kids and adults. Kids section has a decent amount of kids books and in other languages too, adults can come to work there, as there are plenty of tables with sockets+ free wifi you don't need to be a member.
Very nice library, beside a park which is not too crowded. They have many good selections. We love reserving rooms here for meetings or just having quiet time.
lovely library with a section for children they have their own little decorated entrance on the first floor. there's also a teen section on the first floor. they have a section of video games for the switch and playstation and Wii. they have a second floor for adults. overall the ambiance was very nice and clean and well organized. the outside is also very cool with the toad's party which kids can recognize from children books. there are even creatures in the trees.
It's clean. The view is very wide and the lighting is very abundant, you can watch the children play around in the park and it is in the city center.
Fantastic library. Non-permanent residents can still check out two books. Postcard verification can be sent to your temporary residence. Permanent residence can check out 100 items at a time. Very friendly and attentive staff. Additionally lots of resources and events!
