Family owned and operated since 1992, Telluride Music Co. offers an impressive selection of new, used and vintage fine stringed instruments.
Family owned and operated since its establishment, Telluride Music Company began as Sheridan Music in 1992. Originally opened by Neil Wilkie in a small space in the historic Liberty Bell building on South Spruce Street, it provided a selection of CD music, strings and accessories for the local music folks in Telluride. Shortly after the store opened, a small number of acoustic guitars were added to the inventory selection. An authorized Martin Guitar dealership was granted a year later.
Slowly, the business began to take hold, and the need to move into a larger space was imminent. In 1996, a great opportunity provided itself in the historic Sheridan Pool Hall building, which is located at 201 East Colorado Avenue, next to North Spruce Park. In 2014, the Lamb's moved the store to 333 West Colorado Avenue, where it sits today.
Shortly after the move to Colorado Avenue, Dave and Karen Lamb acquired the business. The Lambs had been drawn to the Telluride area years earlier while working for the Telluride Bluegrass Festival. Upon their purchase a new transformation immediately began to take place for Telluride Music Company. They worked to significantly expand the product line with a broad selection of various acoustic stringed instruments.
A woodworker by trade, Dave had owned and operated Matterhorn Millworks, Inc. The company specialized in high quality architectural millwork, cabinetry and specialty wood products. Throughout his career as a woodworker, Dave had always been interested and engaged in instrument setup, repair and lutherie. Dave had long desired to combine his woodworking skills with his music skills, so with the blessing of his loving wife and family, a second career began for the Lambs.
Today, Telluride Music Company is proud to offer one of the finest selections of quality new, used and vintage stringed instruments that can be found anywhere. We are honored to be an Authorized Dealer for C.F. Martin and Collings Guitars. Additionally, we offer a good selection of instrument accessories, reference books, instructional material, and hard to find music CDs and DVDs. We also provide a music lesson program and fine stringed instrument repair services.
