Welcome.Thanks for stopping by.
In 1981, I was fired on a Friday night. The following Monday Terrapin Packaging was born.
In October of 1981, the packaging company I worked for, called to inform me that my services were no longer required. I’d like to say that at that exact moment, I was picking up the phone to tell them I was quitting and there’s certainly some truth to that, but my phone rang first. A call like that sort of bums you out when you’re getting ready to take your kids trick or treating.
I realize this is the world of 140 characters so may I simply say that Halloween night, 2016, Terrapin Packaging will turn 35 years young. And quite a story it has been and continues to be. Anybody who formed his own company and opened the following Monday morning for business, has quite a story to tell. And in addition to that, naming the company after a Grateful Dead Song makes the story even more interesting.
We got a loan from a sympathetic Aunt and Uncle, bought bunk beds for the kids, stole the youngest one’s bedroom and made that our office. We may not have been the first to work from home, but it also added to the “interesting” story that we were building. As for clients, we started with a baker’s dozen. We’ve grown over 450% in all these years. That means that we’ve been doing things right. We are brokers. By literal definition, we exist between the makers and the users, striving to treat each fairly. We qualified ourselves with those who had brick and mortar buildings and existing equipment. Our 35 years of experience creates great leverage for our clients while adding the expertise of in depth packaging design, material handling and graphic impact. We care that your package performs so that you can ship without failures and loss. When that happens everybody wins. That’s when we know we’ve done our job correctly- when everybody wins.
I’m almost done. There’s lots more to tell but as we’ve made countless new friends over the years- recommended by word of mouth, mostly, the relationships have started the way most lasting relationships do. Everybody has a story to tell and when the ease of building relationships and trust become a comfort, both the buyer and the seller grow together. It’s been a wonderful ride. And we’re not through.
So find us wherever you can. Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, word of mouth whatever. The song line that best describes us, I think, has been “The bus pulled up and I got on- that’s how it all began.” Ride with us. There’s plenty of room. Who knows? Maybe we’ll do this for another 35 years.
When we work for you, EVERYBODY WINS
