Excellent, efficient service today at DPS in McKinney! Previously appointments were booking out 3+ months in advance, but recently I was able to schedule an appointment for a name change on my license for only a couple weeks out. Upon arrival, I stood in the appointment line outside for about 2 minutes before I was ushered inside to fill out paperwork. Within 5 minutes my ticket was called. Eddie was excellent, very friendly as were his coworkers near by. Unexpectedly, I left with several local restaurant recommendations and a big smile on my face. With an appointment, I was in and out in less than 30 minutes! The employees are SO friendly here. This is my second visit within a year, and it was great both times. : Thank you all so much, God bless!
Terrible campground. For walk-ins, I'd recommend bringing mosquito spray and something to sit on if you don't arrive early enough. Line up on the left benches for walk-ins and right side for appointments. I'd recommend lining up at the campground very early, but in fear of making earlier miserable lines I won't say when. Just as early as you see fit, then if too many people are there, try earlier the next day. I believe they only accepted 11 walk-ins the day we went. After camping, the process was efficient enough, but you better hope all your documents are correct. The lady was patient and kind, but camping was still more enjoyable than the DPS part of the experience. Camping gets a 2/5 stars. DPS gets 1/5 stars. The department should really streamline the documentation verification process online, because lack of doing so makes the current process so fun and enjoyable. Also, if you can't camp or wait months for an appointment, try setting an appointment at more rural areas.
We didn't have an appointment so we had to go super early to get a same day appointment as the online appointments were 3 months out at the earliest. We arrived about 5:15am and there were already about 10 people in line ahead of us. At 7:30am the people came out and checked our documents and issued us an appointment for 1:50pm we were very happy to get it. When we showed back up we were in and out in about half an hour with everything we needed. If you need a same day appointment I would suggest getting there at least a couple hours early as they only give out so many each day.
Staff can be a little short and military style but over all nice. We got there at 5:45am to find out at 7:45 am they do not offer walk in drive appointments. *DPS DOESN’T OFFER WALK IN APPOINTMENTS FOR DRIVING TEST ** went to Driver’s test now in Frisco same day and paid $86, great experience…finally my son has his license.
We came here and experienced with many unexpected changes and surprises. No more long lines and rudeness. Well, this place is appointment only and we did not have to be there so early to get in line like before. Everybody here was so nice and friendly. It took just 30 min to get the license renew done. We were there at 11 and got out at 11:30 World record!!! We were happy to see such a gov office working out so efficiently in a smart way like that, eventually. Big thumbs up!!!
Hope this review helps someone! I didn’t have an appointment so I had to go for a walk-in. I reached early in the morning around 6:20 and there were already 10-15 people in the line. A officer came out around 7:40 and handed out time slots for the day. I got appointment around 12:15. I was there around 12, It took around 30-40mins but was a smooth process. Just try coming early for same day appointment. The overall experience was smooth except I had to wait in the cold in the morning.
Had an appointment today at 10am. Got there at 9am, NO LINE! Anthony helped us, he was friendly and very informative... we needed 2 more forms and He allowed us to go get them and return by noon. We came back, he finished helping us and we were on our way. Thanks Anthony!
Will admit I was lucky to show up at 5 minutes past opening on a Thursday and get the last same-day appointment. Was back later that afternoon and was able to get a new drivers license in less than 15 minutes from showing up. They are professional but “firm” so bear that in mind if you’re in the same boat and trying to show up without an appointment.
I waited for my appointment, it was about a 4-month wait. But overall I've been in Texas almost two years. This was my third time trying for my DL, first time was in Sherman and that was not a great experience that's why I went for the second time to McKinney but due to the previous state I resided in had some complications with transferring my driver's license to Texas. I had to come back. Both times I have been at the McKinney DPS it went so smoothly and so fast and everyone was very helpful and kind. There was no attitude. My appointment was for 10:00 a.m. I checked in at 9:42 a.m. and was out by 10:15 a.m. it's pretty simple make an appointment, have ALL of your paperwork ready to go and it will be smooth sailing.
ZERO stars! It's a crying shame how Texas DPS humiliates and burdens the elderly! This is the second time in two years that they have turned away my now 93-year old mother, for lack of a paper document this time a marriage license of all things just to get a Texas ID card! Is it asking too much for Texas DPS to keep track of ITS OWN RECORDS which would easily prove that my mom had met the requirements for a Texas driver's license for more than 70 years! She showed up with her Social Security card, proof of residency, her birth certificate to prove she was a citizen, the completed form to apply for the ID card, to be signed in front of a notary... ALL THAT, yet not enough!! Buried several pages deep into the requirements website, was the request for a marriage license as proof of identity! That's hard to swallow in this day and time. She identifies as the person that appears on the Texas driver's license that just expired... yes, the one you've been requiring her to renew every other year! Stop treating the elderly with contempt! An exercise in decency and common sense is needed.
