Prepare to travel back in time as you board this old fashioned train ride between Palestine and Rusk TX. Passengers have several options ranging from the first class carriage which includes air conditioning and snacks to the open carriage. We chose the latter and as it was a cool day, the ride was delightful. Definitely wouldn't want to try it on a warm day though. There is also a concession stand on one of the cars where snacks and coffee can be purchased. Definitely recommend as a fun outing for the entire family!
Great family excursion, nice nature including at Rusk lake and picnic area by the water, great scenery all along the train ride and at the lake, comfortable air conditioned ride, good snacks, just the right amount of time. Comfortable as well. Our train car did not have handicap access but I saw a ramp and access for same on another car so maybe ck that out for more detail if of interest to you.
What a cool experience! We rode the presidential car, but there are plenty of choices for seats. Highly recommend this for anyone in the area. Round trip experience is about 4 hours and lunch can be purchased ahead of time or on site at the Rusk depot. We booked the Presidential car. We paid $87 per ticket. If you have 8 people in your group I suggest getting the private car for $850 and dividing the cost. I do not recommend it for children. Kids will get bored on this train ride. Not much to see, or do. I would suggest doing this when the weather is cooler. Not during the summer as we did. The trip to get to Palestine was beautiful!!
Enjoyed the train ride and the food was great with intimate table service. The train attendant Mrs. Judy, I believe was her name, was a lot of fun and very kind. You will enjoy this piney woods excursion train experience!! Price for entry: $87

Fun and interesting. Pay the extra and ride with Ms. Joyce in the Presidential Car 42. It’s a relaxing slow pace for a chill day. Probably wouldn’t hold the interest of a child or action oriented folks; might enjoy an events ride more than the routine “Dogwood blooms” one.

Highly recommended by all my train going friends. Depot is just the start of the experience you can take a ride short long or extended depending on the audience you have with you. We have a local train place in Houston and we have wanted to visit the Galveston museum. This is a lovely place to experience trains in their natural environment! TIP: bring card games to play with the kids.
