Built in 1903 the Dougherty House was home to Dolphin Disco Dougherty who was the founder of Appalachian State University.
Built in 1903 by Dauphin Disco Dougherty this home was the first in the area to have electricity and running water. What is today Appalachian State University was founded by Dauphin in this home which served as classrooms and administration office during the early years. The home is being restored to its original 1903 condition with the help of donations by the community. The home is located between Boone and Blowing Rock, NC on Hwy 321 between Mystery Hill and Tweetsie Railroad. Admission to the home is included in your Mystery Hill tickets via a partnership that covers the lease for the land the home sits on and a contribution covering all daily operating expenses. 100% of your donations goes into the restoration of the home.
