The Atwood Tool Library is a project of Zion Lutheran Church which promotes community sustainability through access to a shared collection of tools.
The Atwood Tool Library (ATL) is a not-for-profit, membership-based lending library that will circulate a collection of tools with the neighbors of Near East Madison.
For some of our members, the ATL will be a way of accessing tools they can’t otherwise afford. For others, it will be a means of pooling resources they are only going to use once in a while. The ATL is a way to reduce consumption, to connect communities and to learn from one another.
The types of tools we will lend out will be non-gas powered and pertain to home repair, bike repair, gardening and landscaping. Tools will be loaned out during open hours on a weekly schedule with the expectation that they will be returned a week later.
The Atwood Tool Library will help to foster a greater sense of community while providing a shared source of tools and information that will serve as a green alternative to individual tool ownership. This accessible resource will help create a more active and engaged population and will encourage citizens to take on environmental projects such as park restoration, backyard gardening, rainwater harvesting, and community clean-up.
