I have been living here for 2 and half years now. Love how secure and beautiful it is here. After a long day of work I love coming back to my home with amazing Manhattan view. I see a lot of complaints about the leasing office and resident service. My feeling is that they are dealing with a few thousand tenants here so there might be some delays here and there. But whenever I need prompt reply I just went to leasing office I always get help right away. Maintenance also does decent job fixing things up in a timely manner. It’s a great community here with a park/square with fire pits , bbq that all tenants can use, beautifully prune flowers/trees, view overlooking Manhattan and downtown jersey city. And it’s very quiet here as buildings have very solid build that were required for hospitals as Beacon used to be the old Jersey City hospital site. I also see some photos of tenants showing the trash rooms. But these are not really management’s fault. They have been sending emails to remind tenants to dispose garbage correctly but not everyone follows. I take shuttle bus almost everyday and most of time they are on time except when it’s rush hour time. I do wish they operate the buses after 10pm though on both week and weekend days. Maybe I happen to be a lucky one who has been having mostly very positive experience here. :
Appalling Service - Unresponsive Deposit Retention I am utterly appalled by the level of service I have received from this apartment complex. Not only have they failed to return my deposit, but they've also completely ignored my emails and phone calls. It's shocking how a business can be so negligent in its customer interactions. I have been reaching out for about two months, seeking an explanation for why my deposit was withheld, but there has been no response whatsoever. This level of unresponsiveness is both unprofessional and disrespectful to tenants who trusted them. Prospective renters, beware! If you value your money and expect even a modicum of customer service, I strongly advise against considering this place. It's disheartening to see a company disregard its obligations and ignore its tenants, leaving them feeling frustrated and unheard. My experience with this apartment complex has been nothing short of a nightmare, and I urge others to think twice before becoming entangled in a similar situation. Save yourself the headache and look for a place where your rights as a tenant will be respected. —————————————————————————— After receiving the response from the property management company in this comment, I contacted them again to see if they would reply to my message. I will update the processing progress in real time here.
All the positive reviews written by people that have lived here for a few months to one year are really the exception, not the norm. I lived here in the Mercury building for four years and during that time, I had to deal with mice, mold, appliances breaking, you name it. But I tried to be understanding because the building itself is over a hundred years old It used to be a hospital a long time ago and at least the maintenance staff, command center security staff and some of the concierge clerks were friendly, and the issues were EVENTUALLY fixed. But I have to say, management leasing office has completely gone downhill since four years ago. Management changed three times while I was there and it got worse each time. I moved out last month and I had to go down to the leasing office to sign some stuff and I was appalled to see that their office phones are on SILENT. Blinking but no rings. No wonder they never pick up their phones. Now that it's been a month since moving out, I'm trying to follow up about my security deposit but they never pick up their phones or reply to their emails. It's just really bad business practice. I'm not sure if I'll ever get my deposit back.
Don't move here, it's not worth it. This building advertises and charges like they're a luxury building, but they're far from it. In my building only one elevator worked for over a year, we finally got all 3 working... for a week now it's back to 1. Locks were left broken for months, dog poop in the hallways and in common areas, and the worse part is the completely incompetent and rude staff. I just met with a new staff member who assured me as other staff had in the past that things would be changing, but her condescending tone tells me she's likely wrong. There are hundreds on units here and like 3 people in the residents services office and they never answer the phone. Simply put, it's not worth the ever-increasing price, it's essentially a bait and switch.
As stated previously due to lack of communication, poor management style, lack of upkeep on shared community spaces, poor customer/resident experience; i am not planning on renewing my lease. Prime example was during move in no one had check apparement before hand and we were shown a similar appartment, upon moving in every pipe leaked, water leaking onto floor, alarm going off, warped floors, and the toilet tank broken. Fast foward few months later ac stop working in july 12 it took the facility till august 12 to repair issue and even worse we had to threaten them just to give us a portable ac during a heat wave. As stated above is all the reason why i am hesitant to renew lease and referring prospective renters/buys.
Amenities are the only thing going on for this housing community. The AC would stop working every summer without resolution for months. The management changes every 2 months - that way you really cannot hold anyone accountable for anything they do or not do here. I live in a 2 bed room unit - with 1 bed room having cracks throughout the ceiling and it’s leaking. I have logged complain with them but no resolution after 3 weeks now. They don’t care if it falls on you and anything happens after that - all they ever say is - we are sorry! Also, there are two cherries on top - my unit is rat infested. I have caught 20+ mice in the unit in less than a year…And the other one..they don’t give your security deposit back at all. They’ll make up numbers in a way that I adds up to that exact amount you kept down for the deposit.
I currently live in The Beacon C313. They call themselves a luxury apartment, but maintenance, management, and amenities are terrible. I requested maintenance on June 9 to fix my broken A/C. I called them many times, but they did not do anything. I walked into the leasing office to complain, and finally, on June 21, they sent someone to fix the A/C. They changed the thermostat, but they did not fix the A/C properly. They also moved the bed without moving the table and damaged the wall. They did not report anything to me, did not unlock the door, and left it open, along with their tools in my unit. I had to go back to them again to complain, but the leasing office manager and GM did not care about it. They still have not fixed my unit's A/C yet. I have been unable to sleep in my unit for the past three weeks because it gets too hot 80-85 degrees. I pay expensive rent here, but I cannot live comfortably. I called the GM and left voicemails, but I did not receive any callbacks. When I went to see her in person at the leasing office, her reaction was indifferent. 90% of the treadmills in the gym are broken, and they are not fixing them, but they still expect us to pay $85 every month. Even their employees told me that the management here is terrible and they do not care about tenants unless you go see them in person and make a fuss. If you are planning to look for a luxury apartment, this is not one. I recommend looking for another apartment; it's not worth the expensive rent to live here
I have been living at the Beacon for over a year now. It started off decent and turned to fantastic. A lot of changes have occurred, there is a new Area Manager, Concierge and Security Service. The leasing office has been turned around into a punctual and polite office that assists residents. The maintenance crew is incredibly quick and friendly. Recently they have a pretty new staff that has been amazing with fixing issues and helping residents. Their new leasing agents Daria is fantastic, she has a complete understanding of the complex. Really understands the resident concerns and has helped me so much since she has started. It is great to see such great team additions! All the new staff has fostered a really deep community network. Apartments: I love my apartment, it is lovely, it is well priced and the walls are quite thick and I never hear any disturbances. Parking is decent but I would prefer a few more spots for guests. Overall this is the best apartment I have lived in with the friendliest community where the staff are a part of the community. There is a great restaurant Cafe Alyce across the street. An amazing Cafe Bleu on the campus and a Deli with some great selection! I have read complaints in reviews and believe that if they would simply voice their concerns to management it would be addressed.
I moved into the Beacon about a month and a half ago and I have to say - I’m really enjoying my time here so far. I’ve not used many of the amenities yet but I love the layout and atmosphere of the grounds and surrounding neighborhood. I’ve admittedly had a few hiccups since arriving - my blinds broke and I had trouble with my dryer - but the leasing agents and maintenance crew took care of it with ease. Highly recommend for anyone looking in Jersey City. Added on 4/5/23 I’ve lived here for a year now, and I thought that I would take a moment to give an update on my experience this year, as my initial review was left a month or so after arriving. I see a lot of negative reviews on here, and then other reviews that are more positive, but less descriptive. I don’t work for the Beacon, I don’t get paid by the Beacon, in fact, I pay the Beacon way too much money for far too little space. However, I really like this community and the area and everything that the beacon has to offer. Any maintenance issue I’ve had this year they’ve handled, and yes, sometimes it’s taken multiple trips to get things done, but they’ve always gladly made the trips. Yes, it can be very difficult to get someone on the phone in the office, but the office is 300 yards away. And when you’re in there, you couldn’t ask for a nicer group of people. The folks who accept my packages are always great, the security staff is great, and the building is generally clean and beautiful. I will say I still don’t know where the pool in the Orpheum building is… Maybe someone could email me about that. But otherwise, I’m really happy here and when my 18 month lease is up in September, I plan on renewing because I couldn’t see myself living anywhere else.
HORRIBLE HORRIBLE HORRIBLE! If you’re thinking of coming here to rent an apartment, do yourself a favor and go as far away as possible from this terrible place. Management is extremely terrible. Emphasis on terrible. How do you have the only 2 elevators in a building out at the same time??!?? And there are 14 floors here Nothing is ever done properly here. Nothing. If you have an issue in your apartment, it would take them yearsssssss to consider your request. Can’t wait to move out because there’s no way we would be renewing our lease.
