Description

The idea for Belvidere Biscuits began with our passion for delicious, decadent desserts, along with our obsession for all things Victorian. We went to work on creating the most delicious sweet you will ever eat, but we wanted more than that. We wanted to create memories. Our desire was to be a part of those special memories shared with family and friends, and we looked to the Victorian Era as our inspiration.

The Victorian Era evokes a feeling of mystery, beauty, and decadence, the “Gilded Age” of opulence and elegance. It was a time that was simultaneously simple and indulgent, old-fashioned and enlightened, naughty and nice. From Victorian architecture to Victorian fashion to the Victorian lifestyle, society continues to be fascinated and mesmerized by this Age of Opulence.

Our love for rich desserts, along with our own fascination with all things Victorian inspired us to marry the two, and a company was born. But we needed a name, something that would incorporate our mission and philosophy with an authentic feel and flavor. While rifling through hundreds of Victorian images, we came across an old lithograph, dated 1858, of dozens of London locals enjoying a long evening of food and conversation at the Belvidere Tavern. “The Belvidere,” as it was referred to by locals, was a popular meeting place in Victorian London. Bustling and teeming with life, the Belvidere was especially busy on Saturday nights, when people would enjoy an evening repast, concluding with rich and sweet desserts. Creating a culinary masterpiece, along with the camaraderie that makes those special times memorable, is our goal. We hope that we will earn a permanent place at our customers table.

At The Belvidere Baking Company, we are focused on providing the best products made with the finest ingredients, along with the highest level of customer satisfaction – and we will do everything we can to ensure that we meet your expectations of excellence.

Apple Dumbwaiters-Apple Cinnamon Walnut

Dumbwaiters were wooden shelves made with turned supports and brass castors, used to transport food from one floor to another during the Victorian Era. The term was made popular in the United States in the 1840's. Whether using a dumbwaiter or a simple serving tray, these apple, cinnamon, and walnut goodies are sure to tempt and delight.

Carriage House-Pumpkin Pecan Spice

Sugar and spice and everything nice! Pumpkin and pecans team up for a blissful experience that tastes like home. Carriage houses were originally built to house horse-drawn carriages. Stagecoaches were used for longer distances, while people in the city traveled by horse-drawn buses. The very first petrol-driven “horseless carriage” appeared in 1865.

Lamplighter’s Lemon-Fresh Lemon Zest

During the Victorian Era, lamplighters were employed by towns and cities to light the street lamps. Each evening, lamplighters lit the lamps with a wick on a long pole, then returned to extinguish them at dawn. These scrumptious lemon biscuits, made with fresh lemon zest, are guaranteed to light up your dessert tray from dawn to dusk.

Mrs. McMurtrie’s Favorites-Chocolate Chip Walnut

The McMurtrie Grist and Flouring Mill was started in Northwestern New Jersey in 1876. For many years, this area was the chief market for grain in due to its prosperous mills and excellent shipping facilities. Although the mill is no longer in use, we are sure Mrs. McMurtrie would have been happy to provide her flour in these delectable chocolaty biscuits.

Queen Victoria’s Christmas -White Chocolate Cherry Walnut

Christmas was hardly celebrated until Queen Victoria and her husband, Prince Albert, popularized the holiday. They introduced such holiday traditions as the Christmas tree, turkey, and a family feast, which was traditionally celebrated at Windsor Castle. Creamy white Ghirardelli chocolate, plump Maraschino cherries, and walnuts will make every day feel like a Christmas to be shared with family and friends.

Velvet Ladies-Maraschino Cherry Chocolate Walnut

During the Victorian Era, the rise of the economy and the industrial boom allowed for more elaborate clothing, and cloth-making became easier and cheaper. Victorian gowns were often made from luxurious fabrics, such as velvet. Our Velvet Ladies, bursting with succulent Maraschino cherries and creamy Ghirardelli milk chocolate, are a luxurious treat for you to enjoy.

Coconut Crinolin–Chocolate Coconut

Crinolin was first introduced around 1830 to support the skirts of women’s dresses and to give them the required shape of the times. Unfortunately, the style caused endless
impropriety, as a gust of wind could set it swinging and reveal a woman’s legs.
