The Beverly Hills Hotel

Description

The Beverly Hills Hotel, also called The Beverly Hills Hotel and Bungalows, is located on Sunset Boulevard in Beverly Hills, California. One of the world's best-known hotels, it is closely associated with Hollywood film stars, rock stars and celebrities. The hotel has 208 guest rooms and suites, and 23 bungalows, each designed in the peachy pink and green colors which are a trademark of the hotel. The Beverly Hills Hotel was established in May 1912, before the city's existence. The original owners were Margaret J. Anderson, a wealthy widow, and her son, Stanley S. Anderson, who had been managing the Hollywood Hotel. The original hotel was designed by Pasadena architect Elmer Grey, in the Mediterranean Revival style. From 1928 to 1932, the hotel was owned by the Van Noy Railway News and Hotel Company. In 1941, Hernando Courtright, the vice president of the Bank of America, purchased the hotel with friends including Irene Dunne, Loretta Young and Harry Warner. Courtright established the Polo Lounge, which was for many years the premier dining spot in Los Angeles, hosting luminaries such as the Rat Pack, Humphrey Bogart and Marlene Dietrich. Courtright paid for a significant renovation in the late forties, during which the hotel was first painted its famous pink color in 1948, to match that period's country club style. The following year, architect Paul Williams added the Crescent Wing.

Had the chance to stay at the Beverly Hills Hotel recently, and wow, it lived up to the hype. That iconic pink exterior is just the beginning. Inside, the rooms are a perfect mix of comfort and style. I especially loved the little vintage touches that nod to old Hollywood. The food? Top-notch. But what stood out the most was the staff. They just have a way of making you feel special. Whether you're chilling by the pool or heading out to explore, this place sets the mood just right. It's a slice of luxury in Beverly Hills that's hard to beat.
I used the spa and sauna at this location and will absolutely be going back as often as I can afford to. Sharon was my massage therapist and she was so sweet and responsive to my needs. I literally fell asleep and I almost never fall asleep during massages! It honestly felt like entering into another world from the busy streets of Los Angeles.
My family and I have frequented this property for over 20 years now, and I truly enjoy visiting to recapture the feelings I had when I was kid and staying on property with my family during summer months. Recently, I visited the hotel after not having been on property since 2019, and I can definitely sense the changes imparted by its new management. The Polo Lounge is a safe haven for my family, and we have to dine there whenever we're in town. Although during this recent visit, the welcome from the host staff was lack luster and they didn't look polished or genuinely happy to be there. The espresso martini I ordered with dinner tasted as if you were drinking rubbing alcohol, very unpleasant. Additionally, the restrooms near the Fountain Cafe were not clean and had full trash bins, and the towels weren't rolled as they used to be but just folded lazily. Lastly, the gift shop. This was *the* best gift shop of any property I have stayed at, and even if I wasn't staying on property I took the time to visit it because it was truly that good. The international magazines, the ready-to-wear resort attire you could purchase, everything about its product selection was perfection. Now, it feels like a knick-knack shop. And why is the staff allowed to play music of their choice out loud? I don't visit the BHH to listen to reggaeton or Bad Bunny while I'm browsing the gift shop, let alone to listen to the gift shop staff talk about their college courses and homework aloud. It used to never be this way. Be polished, and be professional. I must say, the room rates do not correlate with the service standards thus far. My only 5-star remark is Tony's excellent, anticipatory service while using Valet during our visit. He recognized my family upon arrival, and even took the time to park our car close by. He's absolutely wonderful and a gem. This review won't impede my visiting of the property. Any happy, core memory I have from childhood is because of the Beverly Hills Hotel. However, it will change the brand's legacy and impression for returning and future customers if the care and keeping of its grounds and operations aren't maintained to a luxury capacity.
We booked a short stay at the "Pink Palace" to celebrate our 10-year wedding anniversary and my husband's 40th birthday. From the time we first implemented our reservation, multiple members of staff kept in touch with us to see if we needed anything prior to or upon our arrival. They even went out of their way to collect some of our wedding photos for "something special". We arrived a bit before the check-in time and were met by the assistant director of guest relations and a wonderfully kind front desk agent. During the check our registration process, the front desk agent whose name I embarrassingly can't remember for the life of me and Rebecca AD of guest relations informed us that our room had been upgraded and after being escorted to our fabulous space for the evening, we were met with a beautiful display of roses on the bed, a bottle of champagne, a birthday cake, and an exquisite assortment of chocolates--some of which had our wedding pictures on them! There was also a handwritten note from the general manager wishing us well on our special occasions. It was above and beyond to say the least and we could not have been more surprised, pleased, and grateful. This historic hotel is everything you can dream of and more. We will without a doubt be back as it's worth every single $ spent. It is truly a luxurious experience full of history and attention to detail. Rooms: Our room was the epitome of luxury and comfort with an insanely comfortable bed and beautiful fireplace. There is more than ample space to spread out and the very large walk in closet can accommodate a long stay with multiple sets of luggage very easily. The bathroom was just as fantastic with both a soaking tub and separate shower- also boasting a large double vanity and in mirror tv. Food & drinks: We ate at the Polo Lounge for dinner on our big night and had a fantastic experience. The staff were attentive and kind and the food was out of this world. We also were lucky enough to sit next to some regulars who joined in on our celebratory evening and added to the already amazing ambience. Bar 1912 is also a must! The outside terrace offers great views of the grounds and the bartenders/servers are top notch. We had a fabulous time and enjoyed the live music.

This hotel is pricey, but it's worth every penny! I was in town for rhinoplasty surgery with Dr. Gary Motykie and I wanted to recover somewhere comfortable. I couldn't have chosen a better hotel.
