My wife and I decided to head over to The Big DipperPic 1 at 224 NH-108 in Somersworth for some of the most amazing ice cream you've ever had, Hayward's Ice Cream out of Nashua. After looking over the ice cream selections, of which there were many, my wife told me she wanted Milkyway and went back to the car to stay with our foster dog. I made my choices and placed the order. After my name was called, I headed back to the car, drooling all the way. Once in the car, we began to dig in. I then remembered to take a PicturePic 2. In order from the bottom, Grapenut, Raspberry Cheesecake, Milkyway. Why are there 3 containers you may ask? Because while my order was being filled, the Grapenut was left out of my combo. I was brought a separate full serving to make up for it. In addition, I was brought an order of Charred SirloinPic 3. Why? Because I had commented on the fact they now carry Rice Bowls, including Charred Sirloin and other combinations. I ask you, how is that for customer service??!!! I could have been given an apology or had nothing done at all. This business went above and beyond. I had the pleasure of meeting and talking at length with the new owner of The Big Dipper, Al LavalleyPic 4. If he looks familiar, you may have seen him at his other business, Old Rail Pizza Co at 400 High St in Somersworth. Al purchased The Big Dipper 2 years ago and has made sweeping changes since then. If you'll notice, there's a huge outdoor, lighted seating area Pic 5, complete with a Fire Pit. He now offers a separate area with Corn Hole boardsPic 6 and he has Live Music Thurs - Sun. He has planned to have Ax Throwing coming this week. He has also built a full-service barPic 7 at the rear of the complex that serves cocktails, beer & wine. The menu has changed completely as wellPic 8. A few examples are The Lobster RollPic 9. This BEAST is in an 8" roll and includes a 1/2 lb of pure lobster meat with no fillers. It includes fries and coleslaw for $25.99. You can't beat that with a stick! I sampled it and t can tell you, there is none better for the money. Another example is the Grilled Chicken Rice BowlPic 10. Not only does it look great, it tastes divine with peppers, onions, and a Sriracha sauce for $11.99. I sampled that too and it is a killer dish full of flavor. How can you go wrong for the money. Superb! We had an amazing time closing out the summer at The Big Dipper. Fear not Seacoast Eaters, Al plans to remain open until the end of October, but is hoping to stay open year-round serving hot soups, chowder, and more. This is a fantastic place to come individually, as a couple, or bring the entire family for food, fun, music, games and more. We had a blast and I know you would too. Dine on!
Phenomenal Seafood! My husband and I tried the scallops, haddock and clams, with a couple of Lobster rolls. Everything came out perfectly cooked and delicious. You can't get seafood this fresh for a Great price anywhere else in the area. Props to the new owners for not only serving Amazing food but Excellent customer service. Very kind people
Awesome new ownership here! Haven't tried the ice cream yet but the seafood Lobster roll and Clam Strips we're very good! I wish the fries were a little better quality but still an awesome time!
Ordered the Lobster Roll, as has always been good in past years. This one had 2 small warm rolls with cold lobster pieces and a slathering of too much mayonnaise. After several bites of the first roll, I started feeling a queasy stomach. Couldn't finish any of it; the combination of warm and cold with too much grease didn't work well. Went elsewhere to purchase a drink to settle my system. Long wait for food though I know staffing is an issue everywhere so perhaps to be expected. Also, not too many shady areas to sit outside for those like me who don't want to sit in the direct sun while eating food or ice cream. Very disappointing as this place was always my preferred eatery for a lobster roll then an ice cream. Won't visit this place again, especially since I could have purchased a lobster roll at the same price down the street inside a restaurant.
Had the best, freshest lobster roll. Yes is a little pricey but the lobster meat was fresh, no fillers, very little mayo, good size pieces of fresh lobster meat. Better lobster roll than some places along the coast. If your looking for a good lobster roll than Big Dipper is the place to go.
The wife and I just stopped in for the Lobster roll deal and let me tell you that you won't regret it. The lobster rolls were delicious and so was the seafood. Can't wait for their bar to open....
The place is ok and their ice creams are pretty good. The staff is one of the most unfriendly I have ever had to deal with. Their can't be bothered attitude is not helping the business. Sad!
They have really priced themselves out of having "families" go out to have an ice-cream.... I'll make them at home...the ice cream is good...but the serving, does not equal to the cost!!
Awesome ice cream! My girlfriend got the lobster roll and loved it! 10/10 will go back!
Great burger, hot dog, kids grilled cheese, and fries! Friendly service and fast cooking, will definitely come back again!
