Nice museum but not the top. I would expect more for smaller children. You start your tour among the dinosaurs and end up on carrousel. I would say it is more for older kids as there is a part dedicated to Greece and also inspirational stories of Anne Frank, Ruby, etc. This is very well done with useful information. I mean, definitely the best part. Everything was clean and staff was friendly and nice. The outdoor part was unfortunately closed due to heatwave.
Cons: there's a display in the "Pop-Con" type exhibit that teaches your children that Cinderella just had to change her look and she becomes popular. This is not only an anti-woman sentiment, but inaccurate to the story. This sends a terrible message to little girls. I spoke with museum staff and after being shuffled around for months, I followed up again asking why they hadn't just changed the wording because, well, yuck! I got an email saying they plastered a sticker on the machine/exhibit that says something along the lines of "some of these stories have themes you may want to discuss with your child". This makes no sense. Cinderella didn't become popular because she gave herself a new look. She became popular as the people's princess when she, a peasant, caught the eye and the heart of the local prince and married him. Because of who she was, not because she changed her looks to gain popularity. I was so tired of explaining this to my daughter that we now skip the entire exhibit. I cannot believe they would allow young impressionable kids to experience this, especially when so much of the museum is about building kids up and helping their confidence. Other cons: it's expensive and without an access pass we would have maybe been once ever. Pros: real paleontologists work there! If your child is into dinosaurs, this is a must visit!! They sometimes have traveling exhibits which are super neat. But on its own, there is something for everyone here. Every kid will find a way to enjoy themselves and the guardians won't loathe their experience.
This is a great place to take a kid. Took our almost 7 year old grandson, and he loved it. When asked what his favorite part was, he answered all of it. I enjoyed it so much, I wanted to buy the season pass and come back even though it is almost 3 hours from our home. We especially liked the outside part, legends of sport.Visited onWeekdayWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedYesPrice for adult entry$31+
This place is very nice! A lot of walking, so make sure you have on comfortable shoes. I love their different exhibits; the kid history and Greece were my favorites. I appreciate all of the hand sanitizing wipes and liquids that they have placed around the museum. The outdoor sports center was FUNNNN! My boys loved being able to play all the sports. Make sure your kids are wearing closed toe shoes. The place was spotless, even the cafeteria and bathrooms. I appreciated the free parking. The only con is that the food place closes pretty early, so if you plan to eat there, arrive before 2:30. If you are visiting from out of town and plan to go to the zoo and children’s museum, purchase the Indy Pass to save. You can visit both within 24 hours if you purchase the day pass. We arrived at the CM at 11:30 am, then made sure we arrived at the zoo by 10/30-11 am the next day.
Hands down best children’s museum I’ve ever been too! My toddler and child enjoyed themselves so much they couldn’t stop talking about it in the car! The outdoor sports was mega fun and the museum inside was full of kid friendly activities and a toddler safe space it was perfect!Visited onWeekdayWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNot surePrice for adult entry$21–30
My kids had so much fun and I did too! The different exhibits are tailored to everyone and it's great! You'll need a whole day to experience it all for sure! We were there 10am until about 5pm on a Sunday. It was busy but not crowded. It was great. And parking was free in their parking garage. :Visited onWeekendWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNot surePrice for adult entry$31+
This was another fun weekend trip destination for my family and I. If you go, plan to be there all day. Lots of exhibits to explore and activities to interact with. Little bit of something for everyone. Bit of a tip, though: your tickets can be scanned multiple times. I suggest leaving to eat and then returning. We paid 50$ just for a burger and chicken strip basket. Other than that, fantastic experience.
First, the only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is because some of the staff were borderline rude. That being said, most everyone who worked there was great, so I don't want to make it sound like they are all that way. We have been here at least 10 times. They are always changing exhibits up to keep things exciting for the kids. It's also nice that they have the outdoor sports area, which really let's the kids have fun. Our kids range from teenagers to toddlers, and there is something for everyone.
It was a large museum that kept my family of 5 busy and entertained for 5 hours. Beautiful exhibits and interactive activities throughout. One of the favorites was the outdoor sports area where we could shoot hoops, hit whiffle balls, kick field goals, race pedal carts, shoot hockey and soccer goals, and a large tree house structure. Plenty of educational rooms including Ryan White - AIDS, Ruby Bridges - black student integrating into white classroom, and Anne Frank - holocaust victim. Dinosaur exhibit was another fantastic area as well as the mirror maze. They have a good food court that seems fairly attentive to allergies. The only downside I can think of is the cost for a family of 5. If you order tickets online up to 2 weeks in advance, you get a discount. Each day from the 2 weeks, the cost goes up. We purchased tickets same day and we paid $138. Luckily, the parking is free. I guess I feel one day admission for a museum is pretty expensive when over $100 for us.
I grew up going to this museum and love bringing my 4 kids ages 10 to 4. They love exploring different parts and the new exhibits. It is always clean, wonderfully nice staff and great play areas for all ages. The museum is always updating exhibits for the best experience and has so many fun random programs in each exhibit you can participate in! Plus, they have amazing safety measures if you ever need to use them. They will shut down the entire museum if you have lost your kid. They won't let anyone in or out and have all staff come out to search. Not that I know this from personal experience The family pass is worth the money. Even a day pass is worth it! You won't need to do anything else for the rest of the day! Plus, you can bring in your own food if you plan to stay during lunch.
