Originally built in the 1930s, the Nelson Civic Theatre is operated by the Nelson Civic Theatre Society.
ABOUT US
In 2012, in response to enormous community demand, NCTS was formed to reopen and revitalize Nelson's Civic Theatre.
Our mandate is to:
-Run first-run films
-Provide a venue for cinematic and other cultural experiences that explore and celebrate contemporary art forms.
-Serve and nourish the local artistic community, both through our presentations and through access to cutting-edge technology for the enjoyment and creation of digital media arts.
-Bring together diverse local, visiting, and web-based audiences for collaboration and to expand the network.
We do this through:
-Offering and ensuring exciting, entertaining, and diverse cinematic and live presentations to audiences of all ages in our space.
-Encouraging excellence in artistic practice, with an especial focus on investing in young and emerging artists.
-Collaborating with and complementing other organizations, institutions and individuals to grow community capacity both through partnerships and through engagement and exchange via the worldwide web.
-Providing a fulfilling and respectful working environment for our staff and volunteers.
Our vision for The Civic Theatre is to be a vibrant force in enriching the treasured culture of our community. We believe we can be a catalyst to amaze, educate and inspire.
These are our core values driving our organizational vision:
-Film is an important medium, which teaches, inspires, and entertains, engage us with each other, and feeds the human spirit.
-Film is but one form of digital communication, and it is central to our mandate that we will stay on the leading edge of innovation to in ensuring that Nelson and region have access to the latest technology and a community- operated facility that gives citizens access to those technologies.
-Rural communities must have access need to embrace technology as one of the tools to create economic opportunity and deal with issues of distance and isolation.
-Nelson is a city of inspiring and accomplished thought leaders, and as a community, we have an opportunity (and perhaps a responsibility) to be a positive and important contributor to the digital world.
Located in Nelson, BC, Nelson Civic Theatre Society (NCTS) is a non-profit dedicated to the presentation and development of a wide variety of cinematic and media experiences in our historic venue, The Civic Theatre, and to the betterment of the community we serve.
Memberships, tickets to films and other presentations, gift certificates, concession food and drink.
