Margie Vaughan founded The Clothes Tree in Corvallis in 1963. At its peak, the retailer grew to seven locations in Western Oregon between Tigard and Medford.
Nicole Nystrom bought the boutique from Vaughan and her daughter Mardi Bilsland in 2013.
Nystrom had worked at the store when she was an undergraduate studying fashion merchandising at Oregon State University.
After earning her degree, she worked for Nordstrom for six years. Her last position with Nordstrom was personal stylist manager in Lynnwood, Wash.
Nystrom had grown up in Monroe and still has family there, which drew her back to Oregon.
In buying an established business, Nystrom decided to keep The Clothes Tree name and logo.
“I wanted to make it classic and timeless,” Nystrom said.
