Hadn't been to the Cove in years. We went in for a birthday party and were not disappointed. The outdoor area has grown! It's all covered and very family friendly. The outdoor bar is really cool, with a great selection of draft craft beers. The bottled beer was ice cold. The food is amazing. The portions are huge and very tasty. The staff is very cheerful and attentive. Our party was outside and we were still able to enjoy the live band that was playing inside. The Cove is a comfortable hangout with a laid-back vibe. Gonna be back. Kid-friendliness: Very kid and family friendly. Huge jungle gym in the covered outdoor area. Parking: Overflow parking in the back of the building. Shouldn't be an issue.
The Cove is a nice little hideaway on the outskirts of downtown. It may not look like much from the outside, but the food has BIG flavor. When you pull up out front, you'll notice The Cove sits between a laundry mat and a carwash. You'll probably have second thoughts about even going in I did, but just keep going! The burgers and nachos are great, and you shouldn't leave there without trying each flavor of the fountain drinks. Personally, I recommend the Orange Hibiscus. They have an environment that suits everyone. You can sit outside and watch your kids play or, you can sit inside and listen to live music if there's band playing. I literally sat in there for three hours and listened to Eddie & The All Niters great band and super nice people. I'll definitely go back for the music or a burger. Give it a try, I think you're going to love it!
Menu is very limited. Overpriced burgers and tacos. Simple permutations of the same 12 ingredients to make 24 "different menu items." Ordering was hectic. Two bars, and we could not order food at either of them. They told me to go all the way to the main entrance to order. So I had to stand on this long line forever. Streamline the process, and use that thing called the internet to take orders throughout the establishment. You got 200 people there, and you are funneling all of them in one line. Makes no sense. Crumby live music, overpriced burgers hectic service. Big deal. I can name 5 better restaurants that offer the same concept but better. The only reason you see good reviews on here is because it's a comfort place that's been around a long time. I'm not coming back here.
Nachos were great. Burger was tasty but a little dry. Fish and shrimp tacos were ok. All sauces were excellent. Avocado sour cream dip was amazing. I added it to the fish taco as an avocado tartar sauce and it changed the dynamic completely. Sweet potato fries were the best I’ve ever had. Very crispy on the outside, tender on the inside, and full of flavor. Service was perfect. Outside play area for the kids. Multiple brews on tap for the grownup. Fans with misters to keep things cooled down. Gluten free and vegan options available. Multiple parking areas available. Bathroom in bar area needed attention. Dietary restrictions: Celiac disease accommodated.
I have tried captain jack burger. It is delicious and spicy. Sweet potato fries are ok. They have a lot of vegan options and i really appreciate for innovating in the vegetarian/ vegan space. Restaurant has both outdoor and indoor seating with live music. Ambience is pretty good. Even though there are a lot of people, service is very fast.
Went to see the Los #3 Dinners and had a blast from the past! Best garage band ever y'all!! Still rockin and a reelin! Tried the Vegan nachos and the buffalo burger . Both excellent. Best draft beer selection I've seen in SA so far. Outdoor seating with big playground. Lots of parking too. Went back for more and saw the Blue Ringo's! Beatles tribute band. Too much fun! If you're going to hear the music and eat, I'd recommend getting there an hour early...at least. Gets packed pretty quick when a band plays.
No dog park anymore. Playground was in good shape. Cashier was frustrating. Completely unhelpful for several orders. Unwilling to make changes to accommodate an order with dietary restrictions. And on a Saturday night at 9pm they say they’re out of nachos? Because they don’t have chips. So we order hummus and chips and they have them. The nacho chips are thicker but the employee didn’t even bother to try and do the nachos with the same tortilla shops they use for hummus. Our first order of nachos had 13 total chips on the plate so I can understand why they would prefer the chips be thick. But just use the regular tortilla chips and use a little more. Easy fix. And they said they didn’t have any type of white bread, just while wheat or gluten free. But our daughter’s grilled cheese came on a white bun. Really?! LoL. The parking was as bad as it’s ever been. And we had to stand around awhile before a table became available. But the bar and playground were good. And the patrons were nice to our dog.
I love coming here. I tell everyone about the food and the service, but this past weekend, we were made to feel very embarrassed. We brought our dogs and had them seated by us on the bench. Everything was going great until management told us to please put the dogs on the ground. We asked why, and they said it was because of a customer complaint. We were seated next to a family but had completely separate tables. The dogs aren't mean, weren't barking, and were on their leashes. There is no sign clarifying any of this. We honestly just assumed that since this was a pet friendly place, and at the very least, pets can be seated on the bench with us and not on the ground. Tycoon flats even let's us have dogs on the bench. Very arbitrary seating rule tbh. There were tiny benches that we assumed were for dogs, which, of course, we learned were for the children. I felt very embarrassed. Otherwise, it was a great experience.
We ordered the shrimp taco, which was very good. Childs cheese burger with sweet potatoe fries, that was very good. Finally the cheese burger with fries that was very good also. Only down side was it was too hot outside to eat, but they had fans going trying to create a breeze. We'll be back.Food: 4/5
This place has a great environment for the entire family. Playground in the middle of the outside dining area. Plenty of room on inside and outside areas. Quick service and food was great. Parking is limited.Food: 5/5
