The Cricket was originally The Silver Dollar Saloon and was built in 1894. Much of the original architecture still remains today, including the original bar from The Silver Dollar. We are currently remodeling, and hope to be open by the summer of 2015.
Pocahontas is located in the coalfields of Southwest Virginia. In it's prime, the town had a booming economy. Over the years the coal companies closed down and left town taking all of the jobs with them. Businesses started to close, until there is now literally one small store in town. Most of the old buildings have fallen and what is left is in terrible disrepair.
The Cricket is one of the few buildings that are salvageable and we feel that reopening the historical landmark will help to revitalize the town and encourage more businesses to come to the area.
We also have a great opportunity coming to our town soon. The Spearhead ATV trail is under construction, and the trail head will be in Pocahontas. It will be a great tourist attraction!
