In 1969 when Joan Conzelman Long opened The Dande Lion in English Village, it was the area's first home accessory shop with a flair for the elegant and one-of-a-kind items. The Dande Lion's reputation grew rapidly as the place to go for items. Soon the need to expand led to the move to The Dande Lion's present location on Culver Road in Mountain Brook Village.
Joann Long, the current owner and daughter of the original founder, continues the shop's tradition of a vast inventory, with a constantly changing mix of items as well as an extremely high level of service. In addition to antique furniture, the shop carries antique boxes, tea caddies, and Imari porcelain. Brides LOVE The Dande Lion's complete gift registry for china, crystal, home accessories, and lamps. There is an outstanding assortment of name brands such as Vietri, Mottahedah, and Villery & Boch just to name a few. Casual serving pieces, candlesticks of all varieties, and hand-made silk floral arrangements are magnificently displayed.
First-time visitors are often amazed at the variety of items on display while returning shoppers never have a problem finding new arrivals!
But any story about The Dande Lion would not be complete without a mention of their extensive collection of seasonal items. At Christmas, shoppers will find more than 150 different Santas along with angels and snowmen. Byer's Choice carolers are offered throughout the year. Thanksgiving brings cornucopias overflowing with fruit, glass pumpkins of all shapes and sizes, and Pilgrims and Indians to make your table festive! At Halloween we feature scary witches and friendly ghosts to welcome trick-or-treaters. And at Easter our tables are BRIMMING with bunnies!
