We serve 1 million diapers annually to non-profit agencies helping families in Central AZ. Effective January 1, 2019, we are proud to be serving under the umbrella of the Diaper Bank of Southern Arizona, the nation’s first diaper bank!
The Diaper Bank of Central Arizona is the ultimate evolution of what was originally created in 1999 and known as the Annual Baby Diaper Drive. In the 14 years that followed, the drive was able to raise $1,241,039 worth of diapers, dollars and supplies to help families served by Homeward Bound. This included over 1,189,000 diapers, 1,104,000 wipes and $570,525 in baby emergency funds. This drive continued to grow and ultimately collected more diapers than Homeward Bound needed for their families. Homeward Bound began to then distribute the excess supplies to over 30 other nonprofits serving families with children. We realized that the needs were immense, and what an amazing impact we could make through this continued assistance on a grander and sustainable scale.
We were recently selected as a Community Partner with the National Diaper Bank Network and joined the official collective of 200+ Diaper Banks across the United States. Our Diaper Bank will provide diapers, information and referral services to local communities in Maricopa County through collaborative partner agencies. These will be established 501c (3) service providers such as crisis nurseries, domestic violence shelters, and homelessness agencies.
The primary goal of our Diaper Bank is to bridge the gap in available resources for Maricopa County’s neediest and most vulnerable populations. In a recent US Census, it was determined that approximately 42,000 children ages 0 to 3 live in poverty right here in Maricopa County. There are very few resources available to help with diaper need, which are not currently covered by Food Stamps or WIC programs.
