Beautiful! The Mayan Dress Code Legacy & Continuity in Chiapas, México The Mayan Dress Code presented by Adriana Fabiola Sanchez, Natalie Roizman , Cecilia y Juan Gómez, Rita Cifuentes. Do not miss this Exhibition at The Ferry Building Gallery! 1414 Argyle Avenue 3.80 mi West Vancouver, British Columbia V7T 1C2 Information from the Ferry Building Gallery website: "The Mayan Dress Code: Legacy and Continuity in Chiapas, Mexico Textiles by Mayan women & photographs by Cisco Dietz September 11 - 23, 2018 Opening Reception: Tuesday, September, 6–8 p.m. Curator's Talk: Sunday, September 16, 2–4 p.m. Join archeologist and curator Fabiola Sanchez for an Art Sunday as she delves into the rich history of Mayan weaving. Free admission, no registration required limited seating. We are pleased to present The Mayan Dress Code: Legacy and Continuity in Chiapas, Mexico, an exhibition combining textiles from Chiapas with photography by Cisco Dietz showcasing the artisans and Maya people, in collaboration with the Consulate General of Mexico. Textiles have been part of a complex communication system through different cultures. Clothing forms part of women´s regional identity in the Mayan area, where each indigenous group has a distinctive dress, colours and intricate designs that adorn the blouses, or huipiles. Dressing is a form of identification and identity among Maya women and those characteristics are distinctive between towns in the Maya region. This exhibition features textiles, both traditional and modern, and photographs of contemporary Maya people of Chiapas, Mexico. "
Artistic atmosphere with wonderful ocean view. Just amazing!
The view is fantastic and specially if you go while sun set and you can walk along the beach and you can bring your pet too to give you company and parking is available too for your cars
Absolutely loved seeing local art displayed in such a fitting atmosphere, quaint and humbling, also loved the jazz being played on the radio while I was there.
Although only a small gallery, they had artworks in a style different from anything I'd seen anywhere else in the world; which I had to buy!! Staff were very helpful, in my circumstances, as I was in town for only one day
Great little gallery with nice open space and good light for the pieces in their art shows
It is perfect idea to convert old Gerry building to art gallery and keep continue to serve the community.
I like to stop by to see up coming artists. And it's a great place to launch my kayak.
