I have an almost 3 year old and a one year old that have been coming to the center for nearly a year now. I couldn’t be happier with the care provided by the staff here! The owner, Mary Jo is incredibly welcoming, accommodating and considerate. My daughter has really grown since starting care here; her vocabulary has broadened; she always has different art projects that she is so proud to show us. The caregivers in the infant room- Miss Mary and Lina.... I adore them. You can tell they are there because they genuinely love the kids. I highly recommend this center. It is such a relief to be able to go to work and to know that your children are in a safe, loving environment. Thanks guys for all that you do!!!
My husband and I first met Mary Jo when we were looking for a nursery school/day care for our 2 1/2 year old little girl. After visiting several schools, we knew we were looking for a place that was nurturing, would allow her to learn, grow and become somewhat independent and yet felt like family. Luckily we found the First Step and immediately felt a connection with Mary Jo the director, and her staff. Needless to say the other day cares/nursery schools just didn’t measure up once we walked into the First Step. That was almost 10 years ago. We still keep in touch with Mary Jo, and our little girl who’s well on her way to becoming a young lady still has some very fond memories of both Mary Jo, Rosemary her teacher, and her classmates. We couldn’t be happier having had her enrolled at the First Step and the wonderful experience we had there. Highly recommend the school for your little ones.
I sent my 7 month baby to First Step and I was very satisfied with the care. The baby room has big windows and is very clean. Teachers and the director are very nice. I recommend the center for small babies.
This is an amazing daycare and nursery school. The staff are very patient and loving with all the children. This is an ideal place to start your young infant or baby as they can grow with the school through pre-K which is great for consistency. The center offers a lot of perks such as a dance instructor that comes weekly, organic lunch program, many fun activities throughout the year. We have been with First step for several years and our child is happy every day going there and brings home the cutest art projects. Highly recommend this daycare/ preschool center.
First Step Nursery and Daycare is amazing! My son has attended since an infant he is now 4. There is a lot of love and attention given to all the children. My son has always been "advanced"for his age and a lot has to do with how each caregiver works with each child. Most of the caregivers are there for many years, so there is stability for the children. The First Step has been in business for 35 years with the same owner, and that in itself speaks to the quality of daycare/ nursery school. They also have a vendor that provides organic and nutritious lunch. There is a complete open door call anytime policy, which instills trust. We have been more than satisfied with The First Step and you will be also.
Have trusted the staff at The First Step for the last three years with the care of my daughter. Unfortunately, we had to find a daycare for our infant at the age of 4 months when my wife needed to return to work. Thankfully, we found a center that was loving and caring and provided the appropriate attention to such a young child. The care was exceptional and the staff loved on our daughter as much as our family did. Would highly recommend checking the center out if you are in need, especially for those that have to return to work so soon after birth.
My son loves this daycare. There are days he does not want to come home. He has grown so much and learned a lot. He is not even 2.5 and is already talking. I saw the big change in him and how much he was developing after he started going to this daycares. Teachers are worm and really care for students. Director is very nice and is always available for questions and open to suggestions.
If you are looking for day care center for child, I would like you to strongly consider this place. My daughter Leanne started going to this place from her 8 weeks and she now turns into 14-month-old. All the staffs are very friendly, gentle and well-trained and actively communicate with parents on the kid - telling how well she spent the day and what difference she made and of course, when she has fever or any health-related incident. Regarding the expense, having compared with other day care centers around here including Palisades Park and Edgewater, I am certain First Step is cost-efficient. You should search from your-end, but I personally believe this place is the best for economy considering the greatness of quality in their service. We are leaving this place due to relocation, but my wife and I will remember First Step for the rest of our lives. Would like to thank all the staffs very much for making my daughter Leanne's unforgettable first year. Deeply appreciate your care with love.
My daughter has been in the First step since five and a half months, she is 3 years old now. Being a first time mother I felt nervous and completely inexperienced about child care. They made the experience smooth and I felt immediate trust towards the teachers and the director, how caring and responsible they are and it shows,my daughter loves the school and is very close to our home,Thank you. my son who is 5 years old got injured during an open space play last month. He had a hole in his back of his head and they did not call an ambulance. By law, head trauma requires an ambulance call.Previously, I did not get a call when my child got sick in school and they left him stayed with dirty clothes where vomitus all over him. My babysitter was shocked to see him when she went to pick him up later. I have not informed properly that my child got injured and he left to stayed there feeling sick crying till 6 pm. If I knew it I would picked him up right away . After calling ambulance we ended in pediatric ER so he could get sutures to close to hole, if you imagine how traumatized it is for my son as well as for me where he did get 6 staples. I called an officer also to report ed it and I complained. I know we as parents we are in the rush to catch to bus or get to work and we do not realize and we simply trust the child care provider and from outside it looks okay place but certain objects like tables without proper child proofsharp edges and metal chairs should not be left in the confined room when 20 kids running around. When I asked why is this table is here, owners response was well I do not know its been there forever.. I dont even have a coffee table when I have two boys to prevent incidents. Accidents happen in anywhere but thats the prevention for, reduce the chances of getting injured. I was in shock that this place is not child proof required by law but unprofessional explanation given to me when my son got hurt. My child and I suffered deeply and I could not sleep for a week thinking what happens if he has a head trauma after and I do not want this to happen any other child . Please go inside take a look at it make sure they follow the law and regulations ask for inspection records, where they fail.. I am in public health so I know the regulations codes. During drop off or pick up, I stay with them and observe everything. If I knew the kids were playing in that confined area without proper ventilation also, with tables and sharp objects around I would definitely have them corrected in the first place. what is more upsetting is that we did not even get a phone call to ask how my child is doing well? it is simply business oriented and they do not think about children's well being. I am not a person comments or gives negative feed back but today is my child and tomorrow it could be anyone's child. Its the worst feeling in the world to see your child suffer as a parent. I am deeply disappointed .
