Lansing's cemeteries — Evergreen, Mount Hope, and North — belong to the City and its citizens. This group of volunteers is dedicated to helping improve and maintain these pockets of local history.
A few lone volunteers can’t keep up!
That’s why a number of us who care about our cemeteries have formed the Friends of Lansing’s Historic Cemeteries. We aim to educate the community about the cemeteries, to increase awareness of and appreciation for them. We also will advocate for the cemeteries at the department and city level, so they receive more attention and resources from the city.
We have begun planning for future projects, such as possibly replacing signage or doing landscaping around the columbarium at Evergreen. Where allowed, we will offer hands-on assistance, like righting and stabilizing smaller markers.
We have formed as a 501-c-3 non profit and our mission is “to protect, promote and prosper” the three city-owned cemeteries.
