"We have no boundaries, we have notput ourselves in the proverbial box, we are free to createWe are tHe FuNky tAco. We create food within a “farm to funky fare” framework. Ouremphasis is on Asian, Indian, Mexican, and Americana ethnicities / styles of food. We have options for everyone, the carnivore, the omnivore, the vegetarian, the vegan. We love and think about you all. We established in April of 2013 at the Boise Farmers Market where we debuted our converted 1961 Airstream into a class IV mobile kitchen. We have taken our passion for community, unique and funky fare, art, and live music to the heart of Downtown Boise on 8th street, Boise’s “restaurant row”. This place is at the top of my favorites in Boise. I had the Idaho Yukon Potatoes with the creamy Cilantro Garlic sauce. These were so good but just know that they carry a kick of spice. I will get these again. Next I had the Special Nachos. These are addictive. Every bite made me want another bite. The Special Nachos have beef in a Mole sauce, white cream sauce, Feta cheese, fresh shredded carrots, cabbage and radish, pickled Jalapenos and homemade tortilla chips. Even though these were spicy, I added Mango Habanero hot sauce and it was outstanding! These Nachos gave me one of the best bites I've experienced. This is going to be a frequent stop for me. They are very busy so make a reservation.
If I could have given them more I would have. THE BEST FOOD IN IDAHO. If you are in Boise just try them. Try everything in this fabulous and tasty restaurant. The food is spicy but the chef has mastered the level of spiciness. Ashley thank you for giving us the best service. We will definitely come again and again till we leave this beautiful city.
Stopped into the Funky Taco for lunch on a Friday. Waitress was superb. Kind, attentive, and happy. I order a side of corn with my entree and the esquites as an app. The corn side is essentially esquites without the cotija. The atmosphere was as pleasant as the service. Music was catchy and fun. I found myself tapping my foot to the beat of songs previously unknown to me. It wasn't busy, but steady. Lots of light and a great craft drinks selection. I'll be back to give them another shot at 5 stars. I won't be ordering the same food again. Vegetarian options: Vegetarian, Vegan, and Dairy Free options
The tacos were delicious. We were visiting from Oregon and were excited to try some tacos with a twist. These were unique an full of flavor. The "Papas" appetizer was a nice surprise as a highlight to our visit and I'd definitely recommend ordering these. They offered three different salsas to add to your tacos, which were also delicious is flavor. They had a little punch but they were not too spicy The margarita was good, but not the best we've had. I think it was pre-made, or from a can? We loved that the offered some beers from Oregon, they had two PFriem options. Customer service was attentive and a good experience! My only wish is that they would offer an option for single tacos for kids, or maybe just smaller simple tacos? We ordered a little bit of everything and shared, that was definitely the way to go! I didn't really get photos of the dining experience but it's worth checking out! Get funky folks!
Awesome place for lunch! The food is unique and flavorful. We got the Papas as an appetizer, probably the best fried potatoes I’ve ever eaten, super crispy and perfectly seasoned. My husband got the Korean Pastor tacos, which he loved, and I got the Special Nachos, again, best nachos I’ve had. The roja chicken was was so tender and flavorful and the beer cheese sauce was was on point. I also loved all the crispy fresh and pickled veggies piled high on top of the nachos.
AMAZING vegan options!! I was feeling like the vegan food in Boise is just ok, but this Omni spot crushed the vegan food. We got the nachos and the cauliflower tacos and they did not disappoint. Also - great service. Very kind & friendly staff. We might be back before we leave town! Edit: we are traveling from out of town and were riding bikes around on our last day. We drove past The Funky Taco and decided we needed to stop for the vegan nachos again. Just as yummy as the first time! We also got the huckleberry ginger cider from Bend. Yum! Adding photos this time around of the nachos - look at that stack and beautiful plating! Also, delicious hot sauces. Keep it up, y’all Dietary restrictions: Plenty of vegan and vegetarian options
A funky take on traditional take on Mexican food. The cuisine tastes so fresh and has a lot of flavor. The portion and quality are both great too. Finally, the customer service was very welcoming and took good care of us.
Fantastic! Loved everything. Very unique menu. We had halloumi & esquites corn appetizers, funky fried chicken & curry chicken tacos. Service & atmosphere were also fun & funky in a great way!
Came here for dinner. I got the Shrimp tacos and they were really good. I was warned they were spicy and I appreciated that. They were indeed spicy but not too bad, so the warning was appreciated.
Is it cliche to call The Funky Taco SUPER FUNKY? They live up to their name but don't think that hurts the quality of the food, the friendliness of the staff, or the great atmosphere. The in-house fried chips and salsa are a fantastic appetizer. Cannot recommend them enough. The tacos themselves were mouthwatering good and all the flavors complimented each other. I'll be going back to try out other menu items as there is a good variety of things to choose from. It might be a bit on the expensive side for a casual day eating out, but you cannot, no you WILL NOT, go wrong making this spot your date night destination or casual business dinner. Even if you don't love tacos AND WHY IS THAT???, this place will have something for you to enjoy. If all tacos were this good, you could make every night a Funky Taco Tuesday Night.
