You’ll be glad you decided to dine at Hearthstone before your first bite of food: The lovely landscaping, trellised outdoor seating, and graceful ironwork entry all point to a dining experience that will not disappoint. As advertised, this culinary gem in Muskegon, Michigan, is a bistro, bar, and grill. The menu offers favorites from American, French, and Italian cuisines. The wait staff was friendly and helpful as we pondered drinks, apps, and entrees; many offer wine pairings. The fare my four-person group ordered was beautifully cooked and plated. Of course, we shared apps: escargot, prepared in garlic and parsley butter; Maryland crab cakes,served with a dynamic poppy seed kale and cabbage slaw; and beef carpaccio, a spectacular dish of raw tenderloin, sliced thin and served with red onion, capers, and field greens. Our entrees included: pastrami on swirled rye; Butcher’s steak burger, a patty featuring oyster mushrooms gruyere and truffle mayo; almond brioche perch; and steak frites I subbed the creamed spinach for fried root vegetables—a fantastic side. Lemon cake a multi-layer pastry of lemon curd and cream cheese frosting and black coffee were the endpoints of a unique food excursion. The only faux pas was a fried green tomato soup with bacon, which was too salty. One might argue the prices are a bit high for the communities served but Hearthstone is a fine-dining establishment that offers wonderful food and atmosphere—inside and outside. Bottom line: food is like art—personal and worth what you’re willing to pay.
The flavor of the escargot was great. Needed more butter and rather than those pastries, some bread to absorb the butter. French Onion soup was really good. Enjoyed the croutons that stayed somewhat crispy even in the broth. Fries were great with the Steak Frites. Steak was decent, but a little bland. Cooked nicely. Server was helpful. Probably the highest end restaurant in the Muskegon area. Great for a special occasion.
Filet mignon with Brie is very good. The spinach cream with rice comes with it is an interesting combination. Medium is more of a medium rare. Veal is average. They all say the breaded fish is good. The drink I had is pink something and I did not like it.
Another wonderful meal and dining experience at the Hearthstone. This time, as they were so busy, we grabbed the offer to take the two seats at the bar.Food: 5/5
Went tonight for my moms Birthday meal. Service staff all around was super friendly and helpful. They do get busy though so you may want to make reservations in advance. We went for old favorites of French Onion Soup and Cheese Soup, while I tried the Blueberry Chicken Salad Croissant. I have to say it was like Summer on a plate!! So many blueberries, with a strawberry and grapes garnish. It was not the mayo dripping salad of Grandma’s house sandwiches! It was so many layers of delicate flavor, croissant was actually perfectly crispy on top like they are supposed to be! The Hearthstone is such a gem in Muskegon. Definitely a place to eat while you are here! Sorry I don’t have any photos, it was too delicious to wait and snap photos
No reservation, walked in and was seated at a lovely table outside. A number of specials and soups for the evening. All sounded delightful. Our server Carson was amazing and informative. Impeccable service. In from Green Bay, WI.
Excellent experience from beginning to end. Staff very attentive and friendly, even remembering to wish us a happy anniversary. We ordered two starters - the heritage tomato focaccia and the fennel and apple salad. Both delicious. For entrees we had the shrimp pesto linguine and the Faroe island salmon. Cooked to perfection. I could have eaten the Meyer lemon sauce with a spoon. For a cocktail, I had the Hearthstone martini which was wonderful. We loved sitting on the inner patio all decked out with flowers and chirping birds. Too bad there is some road noise, but they clearly have mitigated the noise with the plantings, etc. We were very pleased and highly recommend this fine establishment.

A very pleasant evening for a birthday dinner! The food was well cooked and warm. The cheddar soup is so great as usual. They had a blueberry ale mocktail that was fantastic! Our server was the sweetest and very attentive. The bathroom was clean and the hand washing experience was fantastic. The water was warm and actually stayed warm and the soap smelt so good! Will continue to return for special occasions.
My wife and I went in for a fancy date. The wait staff was very professional, and food came out fast and hot. We enjoyed every dish we ordered. It was very busy in there, so you may consider making a reservation. But even with how packed the restaurant was, our booth felt nice and private.
