Chartered May 1976 on the campus of Hofstra University.
The Kappa Phi Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc.'s purpose is to contribute greatly to the demographics and culture of the Hofstra University community while maintaining an active presence in minority affairs, volunteering and assisting neighboring residents.
The legacy of service began when 12 young women charted a course toward developing the support of sisterhood that Alpha Kappa Alpha would bring.
Kappa Phi Chapter was charted under the auspices of Theta Iota Omega Chapter.
The purpose of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated is to cultivate and encourage high scholastic and ethical standards, to promote unity and friendship among college women, to study and help alleviate problems concerning girls and women in order to improve their social stature, to maintain a progressive interest in college life, and to be of “Service to All Mankind.”
