We moved our son in on Friday. I can’t say enough about the responsiveness of management. We had just a few, minor things that needed to be addressed. Maintenance AND management responded in a prompt, receptive, and warm manner. The whole move in process was seamless. Our son’s room is really nice and roomy! So pleased with his decision to choose The Lodges.
DO NOT LIVE AT THE LODGES!!!!!! Please look past all the fake reviews on this place. I wrote out a big long story about why this place isn’t good but google puts a character limit on reviews so feel free to reach out to me and I’ll send you the unedited Long story short. Our apartment was nothing like the one toured. When we toured, my roommates and I were promised we would all have the same room setup. We did not. My own room was about 30% smaller than the other 3 rooms and one of the other rooms was about 20% bigger than the normal sized room. The condition of our apartment was poor. The couches were ripped and had burn marks in them, they had bad springs in them, and smelled terrible. The bar stools had bite marks all over them. Staff told us it wasn’t worth it to order new furniture. The floor was all beat up and the carpet felt like a burlap sack. My room had a huge yellow stain on it. But this is all normal for what the staff referred to as “college apartment living”. No insulation in the walls means you can hear your roommates every move and also that your heating and cooling bill will sky rocket in the summer and winter months so be prepared for that. Our locked never worked, there is constantly broken glass everyone on the sidewalks, the kids whose parents pay their rent do not care about the other residents, the payment system charges you an extra 20 bucks a month if you don’t set it up they way you want to. The bus isn’t that convenient, and you will have to get ready to go on a hike when it comes to taking out the trash. Like I said, I wrote a lot more about how this place is by far the best. For 700+ dollars a month you’re better off someplace else as it doesn’t deserve to charge anything more than 450 if that! I truly had nothing but problems with this place since the day we found out what apartment was ours to the day I moved out.
This is going to be my second year at the lodges. My first year my roommates and I had no issues and loved it, so we decided to resign. Unfortunately one of our roommates decided move out, but we found a new girl to replace her. However the Lodges took it into their hands and assigned us a random roommate without letting us know. they assigned the roommate in march and I found out in July This particular roommate is women who is married and has a child. She graduated from college in 2014 so she no longer is in school. The lodges advertise that they are an off campus student housing but that's not the case. I now have to live with a women with a full time job plus an infant. PLEASE TELL ME HOW THIS IS STUDENT HOUSING. More like daycare. My college experience is being taking away from me all because of the lodges. This is completely ridiculous and something no college student should have to go through without their consent. All in all if you're a college student looking to live at the lodges just beware it is possible for you to be living with a mother and her child.
Overall, I hated everything about lodges. From the first day, trying to get my lease was a nightmare. Their staff was not on the same page, gave me conflicting advice and ended up hurting me. I had to spend an hour just to get my keys. As for the apartment, it was in horrible condition and getting maintenance over is a nightmare. I had to drive to another place just to have a shower. I would NOT recommend anyone ever renting a place here.
I enjoyed living here for the facilities. They were nice enough and adequate condition. The fridge in a 4 person unit was apartment sized and way too small for four people it was not a full sized fridge. Our neighbor had someone throw a bottle through their window from the street. Overall it wasn't too bad, but I am giving a 2 star because THE APARTMENT STAFF ARE NOT REQUIRED TO GIVE YOU NOTICE WHEN THEY ARE COMING. As a female, this makes me extremely uncomfortable. They will just knock on the outside door and then let themselves in with no notice. Once I was in the shower with nobody else home and had a service person walk into the living room. They will arrive without notice unless you specifically put in a work order, but all general maintenance will be done randomly and they will just let themselves in. It is always men. If you are a woman or have pets you're worried about, know they will arrive unannounced often... even if you aren't home. You will not know they were in your house Edit. ***The reply to this is review by management is 100% inaccurate. I have been living alone most of the semester. General maintenance will be done on your unit without notice whether you are home or not. They will knock once and let themselves in. This is totally creepy especially for a female who is alone. "maybe my roommate knew about it" is an unacceptable answer to me when I have been disturbed in my bathrobe unannounced by maintenance men on numerous occasions. One time, I was laying in bed and the service man knocked on the window until I got up to let him in. Not appropriate and would not be tolerated outside of a college apartment complex.
Just received an online tutorial with Veronica, it was awesome! The property is beautiful and has lots of amenities. Veronica answered every question we could think of and some. lol Veronica's knowledge and professionalism about the property is far and beyond expectations. Thank you so much for your patience and kindness also Veronica. Have a great day!
I live at the Lodges, and I was having some trouble navigating the website and I couldn't figure out how to put in a maintenance request, so I called the office and Emma answered the phone. Emma was incredibly helpful and she showed my just how simple and easy-to-navigate the website actually is. She was very helpful and respectful. I am glad that the Lodges has such wonderful staff to help people like me that don't have much experience with computers and websites.
Lived here for two years. Would never return. From the perspective of the premium price you're paying considering the fact that the location isn't actually that good, you'd expect maintenance to be a little quicker on the draw. The insulation in our apartment was terrible; cold air rushed in through the bottom of the door in the winter time, and since the electric bill is on you, the cyclic nature of your heat will not be kind to your wallet. Tenants"don't pay for water", but water heaters are run on electricity, so unless you exclusively use cold water... You do pay for the water. Lastly and most disturbingly the first year I lived here, residents had free access to the ice skating rink down the street, in addition to free access to two tanning beds within the complex. The 2nd year, the already EXORBITANT rent was increased by over $20, and residents were UNINFORMED that ice rink access and tanning bed usage were discontinued. When I called to ask about the tanning beds, the management told me that they "didn't get enough use" which is an outright lie, because I would use them multiple times a week, and I would often have to wait my turn for access because they'd be in use. Seems backwards, right? What housing situation annually RAISES prices while REMOVING amenities? Not one I'd ever want to live in. Too bad we were asked if we wanted to resign in October I believe we moved in in August before we experienced winter and amenity removal. I left 2 stars on because if your friends ever come visit your far-away apartment, they'll say "wow this is nice this must be expensive".
I will start with the Pros: -The location is close to Michigan State's Medical School and Nursing School. -If you live in Phase 1, there is a bus that will take you to and from campus that will wait outside of the clubhouse. It leaves every 15-20 minutes. If you live in Phase 2 the newer phase, the bus will still come by, but it won't be there waiting like it is in Phase 1. -The amenities when up and working are really nice. The lodges has 2 really nice workout areas. Also, there is a study room with printers. However, you will need to bring your own paper for the printer. -Parking is not really an issue here. There is plenty of parking. -Maintenance: From a light bulb out to a broken mirror, the maintenance is very good. -The layout of the apartments are great for privacy. You have your own bathroom and a big closet. Onto the Cons: - I have had problems with my mail being stolen at the Lodges of East Lansing. Never through USPS, but if a package was coming via FedEx or UPS, the package is left right outside your door. If you are at class when your package gets delivered you run into the risk of it being stolen because there are no cameras in the residential areas and it is a college town. When I contacted the Lodges staff, I was told that there was nothing they could do about it and I would need to contact the carrier. - There is a lot of shattered glass. On more than one occasion the hot tub has had to been drained due to broken glass bottles. Also, be careful if you bring your bike because I've blown out my tires riding on the side walk. The Lodges of East Lansing is party central. - The heating is electric here and the insulation is not the best. Heating/Cooling bills for me ranged from $90-$200. Regarding the construction of the building, I had my mirror fall off my wall and shatter all over my bathroom, bedroom, and closet floor. However, when this happened, I called and left an emergency work order. The same day, a maintenance worker came and cleaned up the shards of glass and screwed a new mirror into my wall Before it was just glued/cemented to the wall. - Boxelder beetles are horrible in the early fall. If you live towards the back of the complex, closest to the trees, your front door could be covered with them 30+. Again, the maintenance came and brushed them off the front of my door with a broom. - Management: I was not renewing my lease and somehow my name got taken off the Email list. Every year the Lodges gets rid of all the abandoned bikes. My bike got taken and my $50 lock got cut. When I got my bike back, I asked to be reimbursed for my cut lock and was given a $15 one. I was told that there were public papers around the community that were informing residents of the bike collection. On a further note, trying to get ahold of the general manager is very difficult to do. The majority of issues will be taken up by college students that work in the office. -Wifi is very slow. During my first year living here, we were told that routers were not allowed but people use them anyways because the Internet is so slow. I tried to use internet provided, but ended up going out and getting a router. -When I switched units at the Lodges of East Lansing, I was unaware of a "transfers list" this allows you to move out of your old unit and into the new unit in a 24 hour move. When I heard about it, I was put on the waitlist. However, because the "transfers list" was full, I had to move all of my belongings home for 2 weeks and then move all of my stuff back to this complex. If you are moving to a different apartment complex all together, just know that the Lodges of East Lansing does not extend the lease to make it convenient for when you move into your new apartment this is something that DTN does do. You will have to pay $200 a day every day you stay past the day your lease ends July 31st. Your options for this is you will have to look into a storage unit or sublease. Final thoughts: For how expensive it is to live here, save your money and look elsewhere. 2/5
Mngt doesn’t seem to care about their tenants. If you have a question and send an email, they never ever respond. Veronica P is the worst.
