I can’t say enough about the fantastic experience I had at The Malted Barley. From the moment I walked in, I was greeted with a warm and inviting atmosphere that set the tone for a memorable visit. This is a cute place. It was pretty packed when we got there, due to rain and a small alumni event being hosted by Clark University. Thank you for giving us one of your tables so I could feed my exhausted 7 year old, still grateful <3 Any of the not stuffed pretzels can be gluten free, since it's just toppings. My wife got a normal pretzel sandwich and said it was very good she's vegetarian, got the hummus one. Prices are reasonable, pretzels are surprisingly filling, unsweetened iced tea was smooth and not bitter at all. My kiddo liked the lemonade. Will definitely go here again. Vegetarian options: My wife is a vegetarian, there were two sandwich options she thought looked good, she went with the hummus one. The hummus is housemade, thick and mellow tasting. All the gluten free bagels are also vegan, not sure about the wheat dough. Most of the basic bagel seasoning options were also vegetarian. Kid-friendliness: My child will eat soft pretzels over pizza, so was very excited to eat here. She was a little nervous about the tall chairs at the bar height tables, but was comfy once she climbed up Dietary restrictions: I am celiac, and felt safe with the explained precautions. Gluten free pretzels are served in reddish baskets lined with parchment, while gluten containing ones are served in black baskets also parchment lined. No bad symptoms the day after, other than I was dumb and ate garlic which aggravated other issues I have. Will definitely get pretzels here again, maybe get take out on a nice day and eat at the patio tables or a near by park.
Sandwiches were good, but What really shined were the "appetizer" pretzels. The jalepeno cheddar stuffed pretzel was insanely good; like something I've never had before. I could've eaten 4 by myself. I’m 3 hours away from this place and went here 3x. Wish it’s near me though. Not a fan of pretzels but I Fell in love with stuffed pretzels jalapeño and cheddar dipped into apricot butter or spinach artichoke is my favorite. Will always go back to this place if I have a chance to do it. Service was great! And they have good selection of beers!
This is a great spot to stop in for a beer. The atmosphere is very welcoming. The staff is very friendly. They have special nights like trivia night that are a lot of fun. More importantly, the pretzel sandwiches might be the best I've ever had in my life. The Roast Beef might be one of the best sandwiches of any style I've ever had. I can't wait to get back to Providence literally to get a Roast Beef pretzel sandwich here!
TERRIBLE SERVICE & FOOD. Too bad....it has a Great location and beer selection. Service was inattentive, snarky and just awful. Bartender Harrison was inaccurate and inattentive. Took my order, offered to swap out the chips that come with May special Sammy, only to upcharge me $4 without informing me until I got the bill. Once food was delivered was never checked on asked for another beer.. etc until I flagged him down asked him if I could have my bill. Bar was not packed. I do recommend and will not return.
Went here for lunch on a Sunday. The food was delicious. The hummus sandwich on a pretzel was filling. The house salad would have tasted better without the blue cheese. I wasn't able to finish it because of the cheese. Other sandwiches ordered that day were the grilled cheese, the caprese sandwich, and the burger. The only disappointment was that the chips came in a bag and were not homemade. Will be going back.
Service is super friendly even at midnight! We came just before the kitchen closing and the server took our order just in time. I ordered a tomato and mozzarella stuffed pretzel with pesto. The pretzel itself has crunchy outside, soft inside, and good salt ratio!
Food was delicious!! All the staff were very friendly and our server Rachael was particularly kind and accommodating! Has great gluten free and allergy-friendly options.
I went at about 2pm and the first thing I noticed was how loud it was. The music was blaring. Also didn't help that there was a bunch of very young kids running around. The portion sizes are pretty small. I thought my pretzel sandwich was practical inedible due to the saltiness. I know it's a pretzel spot and they are supposed to be salty but I mean this was ridiculous. Overall, if I was to return it would be later at night and just to get singular pretzels since the sandwiches leave much to be desired.
