The Maries County Bank of Vienna was founded on August 7, 1900 and opened its doors on September 1, 1900, when Vienna was just 45 years old. It survived the Great Depression, and with the creation of the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation, depositors' funds were covered to a maximum of $5,000 each.
Since then, The Maries County Bank has flourished. On November 5, 1973, The Maries County Bank opened a facility in Argyle. The branch is now a full-service bank, offering loans, checking and savings accounts, certificates of deposit, bonds and a night depository. On May 5, 1997, a branch facility opened in Dixon. The Community Bank of Dixon opened for business in a trailer until December 15, 1997, when the Dixon branch moved into its permanent building. It is also a full service bank, offering new accounts, loans, an ATM and more. On March 31, 2003, The Maries County Bank merged with Belle State Bank which included Belle State Bank – Uptown, Bank of Vichy and the Community Bank of Owensville. In the summer of 2011, The Maries County Bank received approval to open a branch in St. James, known as Community Bank of St. James.
