The Midwife Center promotes wellness by providing exceptional, client-centered primary gynecological, pregnancy and birthing care.
The Midwife Center for Birth & Women's Health is southwestern Pennsylvania's only licensed and accredited freestanding birth center offering primary gynecological care, prenatal care and childbirth in a warm and supportive birth center. Our goal is to provide safe and satisfying care that is personalized to meet the needs of the client. Our staff is guided by the philosophy that a woman should be in control of her own health care, including her birth experience.
The Midwife Center accepts the following payment methods for primary gynecological, prenatal and childbirth care:
– Most PA medical assistance plans, including UPMC for You, Gateway and United Community Plan
– Most local and national private insurance plans, including UPMC, Highmark*, United and Aetna
– If you do not have insurance, we can assist you in applying for medical assistance. If you do not qualify for medical assistance you may be eligible for sliding-scale care. The Midwife Center also offers payment plans.

Our home-like facility is conveniently located on Penn Avenue in the Strip District. The first floor of our Center houses three nature-themed birth suites, each with its own large bathroom with a Jacuzzi, and our family kitchen. Upstairs is a large waiting room, three exam rooms and administrative offices. Our extensive video and book library is available here as well.
Care at our facility is provided by Certified Nurse-Midwives (CNMs) who are registered nurses with additional education in midwifery. As all CNMs, our midwives are certified by examination through the American College of Nurse-Midwives or the American College of Nurse-Midwives Certification Council and licensed by the Pennsylvania Board of Medicine.
TMC is a private, non-profit practice, supported in part by patient fees, United Way Contributors Choice, and tax-deductible contributions from individuals, businesses and foundations.
TMC accepts most insurance plans and is a member organization of Adagio Health, which enables the Center to provide gynecological care to women for free or on a sliding fee scale based on income and family size. The facility is licensed by the Commission for the Accreditation of Birth Centers (CABC).
