The Molesworth House

About

The Molesworth House c. 1937, is available for YOUR special event or night. Located in the historic district of downtown Cody, Wyoming.

Description

The Molesworth House c. 1937 was built by Paul Hindman, Master Craftsman for Thomas Molesworth during the height of the Molesworth Arts & Crafts period, and is the encompassed collection of cowboy design, decor and local western art. Without being present at the time you can still experience the "Art Deco" period of a blended cowboy, western and Native American Indian design at The Molesworth House.

Paul Hindman and his brother grew up in the main house next door. They built The Molesworth House entirely of local Douglas Fir, Ponderosa Pine, Chugwater "Red" Sandstone and Shoshone River Rock. With original tongue & groove wood walls and floors throughout, the "cabin" feeling is firmly established and very unique for a Cody downtown home.

Custom Molesworth embellishments such as window cornices with silhouetted cowboy, buffalo, wildlife reliefs, built in bookcases, shed Elk chandeliers, lamps and a large sandstone fireplace make this home like no other.

Cody, Wyoming, was founded in 1896 by investors including World Famous William F. “Buffalo Bill” Cody (1846 – 1917). Cody was visiting Sheridan, Wyo., in 1894, when his son-in-law, Horace Boal, took him to the top of the Bighorn Mountains for a view to the west over the Bighorn Basin.

Although Cody had heard of this area from Indians, Cody eagerly joined the effort. He saw the beauty of the region, its proximity to a Yellowstone already attracting tourists, the abundance of wildlife, fish and land available for ranching or farming.

You cannot beat the location of this rental. You are the perfect walking distance to everything in town. The house has plenty of bedding to choose from and multiple fully stocked kitchens. The outdoor kitchen is great for making breakfast. You won't want to cook inside during the summer - since there is no central air. That being said the upstairs was extremely warm, and the window AC unit does not cool off the upstairs bedroom. They have lots of fans for you to use, but it was still a bit uncomfortable. The other bedrooms have their own unit to keep you cool while sleeping. The laundry is outside and covered well from weather. Again, this was probably blessing so the house did not get extra warm. Our family enjoyed the fire pit and roping in the front lawn as well. I would stay here again if I were in Cody.
We're loving it so far. We have three more days of pleasure in Cody.
